After numerous PM's with 410Fortune, we decided to find a replacement engine. He answered all my questions and gave me a list of models and years that had the 2.3. I didn't have to spend a lot of time looking but did notice vast price differences by model. The Ranger engine is very scarce and over $2,000, the Escape engine is fairly common and $1,200-1,500, and the Fusion engine is less common and $600-800. I located a 2008 Fusion engine with 117,000 miles for $600 in a local wrecking yard and picked it up today. The difference in the engines is the intake, oil pan and timing covers. Since I have to swap them, and this engine is prone to leaking, I ordered a Mahle engine seal kit, and head bolts as recommended by 410. The seal kit is very complete, even has a rear main seal. I also picked up a cherry picker and a second engine stand from HF.
Tomorrow I'll get the replacement on a stand and rearrange vehicles so the Ranger is in the RV storage area. I want to pull the head and oil pan off the replacement to look it over before I start on the Ranger.
To be continued...
