just bought a 96 explorer. had a broken brake line so i replaced all the lines that looked bad. when i bleed the brakes i get pedal only with truck not running, when i start it up the pedal goes to the floor. i took it to a local shop to be bled, he said a 96 didnt need the scan tool to bleed the abs. got truck back and there is no differance in the brakes. what is the name of the scan tool needed for bleeding the brakes on this vehicle. i read that it will open differant valves while bleeding the brakes. thanks guys this is a great site. scott

Your best bet is to get the abs to activate on your own. Find an open parking lot or gravel road where there is no chance of you hitting anything then get the brakes to lock up. Itll activate the abs and push the air out into the system. Then you need to rebleed the brakes.

There is a how to video on the link in my signature.
