I am replacing the hood on my 95 XLT sport with one from a 1997 sport. My original hood has this cable coming off the firewall, which then attaches to a unit onto the underside of the hood. There is no such connection on the new hood.

What does this unit do? Is it the a temp sensing unit for the overhead console?

I don't have one, so I am wondering whether I should worry about connecting the unit to the new hood.

attaches to what unit?

Only thing I have ever seen on Gen II hoods is the underhood light and a simple ground strap... I would think under the hood is a bad place to take an external temperature reading

On my 95 the only cable under the hood is to the light, the temp sending unit is on the drivers side down near the bottom of the radiator.

Theres suuposed to be a light under there? Mine doesnt have one, hmm, must get one.

...I got one for my ranger from Kbabiak...He is a vendor here...;)

thanks..

that's good news, I don't have to worry about the connector for now.

I'll scavenge the light assembly from when I have time to kill, and attach this dangling cable there.
