Can I increase ride height with larger shocks?

This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm learning new things everyday through this forum. Instead of getting a entire new suspension lift kit, could I increase height by just purchasing a new shock? Thank you for your time and expertise!

your vehicle has no shocks it has struts, also springs set ride high, shocks is what stops the vehicle from bouncing after hitting a bump.to stop the spring effect of the springs.
