Hey guys-
I got a 2000 Mountaineer 2wd 8cyl. I am thinking of adding a remote start system. Is this easy to do? How do I do it? Where do I buy the system from and what will it cost me?
Thanks!

it all depends on how much you're looking to spend. remote start is good for those cold mornings, or even just to get it giong a few seconds before you get it... plus i like it just to show off, lol. remote start systems vary on price, i've seen some setups that are 'cheap' and others that are way up there.

before doing this on your own, i'd go around to a few shops and get price quotes, for what youd' pay for a decent remote start system there might be a place that will put it in with the purchase.

i'd go with a good system though, one that'd allow you to lock/unlock/remote start/ aux all in one remote. aka vipir system! go look around though and get some quotes from the stores, they can probably do it quicker and also guarantee their work in case something goes awry.

good luck with it, i hope it goes well

Remote Start

I had my remote start & keyless entry combo purchased & installed for $199 with warrenty.

Check out any local car electronics place it's a common install.

I have a top of the line Remote start and Alarm. In all it coast me...Like $600 installed. The guy that owns the shop is a very good friend of mine...For a normal Joe Blow off the street it would be around $800.

I would never mess with an Auto Start or Alarm on my own I have watched him here and there installing them and he is a one man show and it takes him 4-6 hours...He rips the car apart to do it...I would never...

With mine I have relays and modules installed as well for like my LEDs in my head lights and so that if the factory or after market goes off my heads lights wont flash...Also my after market and factory are wired together...

SO much work...

ok, that's what I needed to know. I didn't know if it was a big or small job. I'll check out local audio shops and see what they're charging for it.
Thanks

Probe the back of the switch with a logic probe and turn the heat off and on. Find out if it's negative or positive, hook up a relay that only turns on with the remote start. Usually you only need to power up one wire at the back of the switch. Very easy to do.

I put one in my wife's taurus. It was definitely a long process. As stated, you will need to pay extra for a module to get past the chip in the key. It took me about 4-5 hrs. Lots of soldering main wires under the dash. If you're not familiar with car wiring/soldering I wouldn't try it. It was kind of a pita... I'm not sure if I would want to do it again. My wife liked going out to a warm car this winter though.
