Went for a day trip today with my friend Tim and his jeep club. I think there was one of every kind of jeep from yj or newer...yj,lj,xj,zj,jk...and a couple kj Liberties, one with a straight axle.

We met up at Valero gas station in Yucca off hwy 247 then headed to the Mottino wash trail which is an off shoot of Rattlesnake Canyon. It was a long way in to the actual trail but it was very scenic. Probably took us an hour once we got off the pavement to the trail. There were about 15 rigs and we made some stops along the way so that made for a long day.
The hillsides got a light dusting of snow and the skies were clear and made for a great day of wheeling. Glad I dressed warm and brought extra layers just in case. It was pretty chilly in the canyons where the sun was blocked and the breeze kicked up.

Once we got to the trail it was challenging but fun. I would rate a little harder than the trails in Big Bear...lots of boulders and rock gardens. I'd say 35s and one locker at minimum.

Once the trail ended we took Rattlesnake Canyon which is just a wash trail back to hwy 247 and ended up about 10 min west of the Hammers.

I didn't get many pics but here's a few I got.

EDIT: I was calling it Sidewinder Canyon but it's Rattlesnake canyon. Sidewinder Canyon is in Death Valley.

Dave, ext time you go on a day trip, let me know. I'll sit shotgun with you. I'd love to get on the trails again.

Just build another one that's what I did.

I don't have time to build... Sell me your ranger and build another one. :D I have a 2004 D60 and a 10.5 for partial trade you can use in my backyard!

No way. I dig my ranger. I used everything I learned from my exploder build to put it together and it has a bed.

It sounds to me like you need to make time if you already have axles...

Nice to see this thing out and getting some dirt on the tires again.

Hopefully we can hit the trails together next year

Yeah I've been trying to get out wheeling more. There's some things I'd like to do to the truck but I'd rather wheel it than have it be on jack stands for now.

You coming back out west next year?

yep. Moving to Santee. Miss the desert too much.

Goal is to drive D from KY to CA hitting some of the mining roads on my way. but that truck needs a lot of love before that can happen. lol

Right on, yeah we're spoiled with all the good wheelin out here.

Dusy or Rubicon this summer?

I would love to, we'll see how things work out. I'm gonna need some tabs cut if you are interested and have the time. I can't seem to find anything I like from the usual vendors.

Send me what you need. I have 3/16 10 ga and 16 ga right now. I can cut next week.

Good deal...I'll get some dimensions together and text them to you in a couple days.

Stole these pics from my friend Tim's FB page.
