ok guys my wife gets home today and just a normal day well i tell her i am gonna run to the store and she tells me about a chugging so i get in and omg horrible chugging when i accelerate at first i think its missing like a loos plug wire but then i hammer on it and after that it stops well then i get home and now theres a check engine light on and theres this LOUD ass humming that sounds electrical but it sounds like its comming from the air box "i could be wrong" not the iac any sugestions?

well i have continued to search the forums and the one thing that stands out is the mass airflow sensor and possibly the iac though its def a rouch accel and the iac doenst seeem to have anything to do with that so that points back to the maf so i will slap another one on tomrrow and hopefully that is it since ther about 100 a pop

ok guys i got up this morning and unplugged the batt to reset the mas put it back in and start it up no check engine but a rough idle so i take it fro a spin same thing so i unplugged the mas boom ilde perfectly smooth so i take it for another spin and its fine wayy smoother at low rpms still hesitint when i punce on it but i figure thats cuz its unplugged so what do you think clean it replace it and will it screw will my engine if i cant get a new one for a month damm things are like 200 bucks and one more thing what is with the weird torx screws with the stud in the middle do i need a weird driver to get them out thx

lmao ya but i have a habit of not using it :) and its the ohv sorry though i put that in there

thx for the thread but does anyone know if this can cause damage to a engine if i cant get a new one for a month or so if cleaning does nothing? thx

Cleaning should work--do you have an aftermarket (k&n) air filter?
I ask because the oil on them is know to contaminate the MAF on occasion.
While you are at it, I would clean the IAC also.

Also, you might try to find a used one from a member here--

Pedstang or Kbabiak would be a good start---

If it causes the engine to run lean-it could damage engine.
If it is too rich, it could damage catalytic converters.

Are you getting a Check engine light

the check engine is intermitint it came on last night when all this started but it didnt today untill i unplugged the maf to see if it made a diff i checked all the plug wires too and nothing and ya i was thinking of cleaning the iac at the same time even though it doesnt have anything to do with accel or at least i think it doesnt and no k&n just a fram it is new though only a month on it

another thing though that makes me think its the maf is when i would plug it back in it would fall on its face and go right back to a rough idle unplug it and smooths out goes up a lil cuz its not plugged in but you can totally tell its having a effect on it so i am gonna go gets some contact cleaner and some carb cleaner for the iac i will let you know what happens thx for all the replys

i couldnt get that link to work crashed my ie lol but that noise is gone hasent happend since the first time and it was def comign form the maf or air box area not the iac on the other side of the engine and it was almost a whistle hipitch and loud

ok well i cleaned the maf and the iac and it did help but the more and more i think about it i think it might just be a case of bad gas but cleaning the maf and iac def seemed to smooth the idle out and the acceleration instead of chug chug chug its more like just a hicup every minute or 2 so if it doenst stop completely after a fresh tank i will kick down and put a new maf in there and see if that fixes it thx for the replys and info

Glad you're making some progress with the issue. I would be very hesitant about running any engine for an extended period without the MAF sensor connected. As Jon said earlier, you may end up with a much more expensive issue. From the symptoms you describe, I would tend to believe you have an MAF problem, and if so, a good cleaning should straighten it out.

Also, any time you get a CEL light, pull the OBDII codes, this will help solve the problem much more quickly.

ya i dont know how to get teh OBDII codes dont you need a scanner?

ya that is one thing that the cleaning did for sure the light is off and stayed off the entire 18 miles or so i went so time will see one of the lil wires on the maff was liek shiny clean the other was very browm but the contact cleaner i used didnt seem to change the color or anything so i donno how good it really did the iac was filthy as can be exspected lots of carbon build up but it all came clean but it def seemed to help so hopefully it will stop all together if not new maf here i come :(

well its back to doing it again even worse this time now it will actully cut out so bad it falls on its face and almost feels like its gonna die then picks back up and heres a new twist theres a bad sulfur smell from the exast smells like fire crackers at first i figured it was just cuz of the holiday but while it was running i went by the exuast and ya somthing isnt burring right in there put it some fule treatment though to see if i got some really bad gas no cel has come on in days though so i donno wtf if it gets worse or doenst stop by the time this tank is gone... its on a half now i think i am gonna have to take it in some were cuz wow its certainly not getting better

ok FINALLY got it fixed it was a dead plug on number 4 cyl and one that was intermitint one on #1 so new plugs and wires and she runs like a champ again the reason i didnt check the plugs my self is i couldnt get one of them out the dealership had trouble to but they managed to get it out without fubaring the head thank god thx for all the replys though
