Climate Settings With Remote Start

No if it were him he would have said isn't the factory range enough? You have to walk to the vehicle anyway so why is it even necessary for it to work from further away? lol :D
With a 'double' chin I get twice the range. :D

if THAT helps,
then what about around the beer belly area ?!?

and why further range for me is answered by it's HOT in dfw already - want that ac ON !!!

You guys covered pretty much everything. LOL

I also found this on page 61 in the 2013MY Explorer Owner Guide 4th Printing:

“The typical operating range for your transmitter is approximately 33 feet (10 meters). Vehicles with the remote start feature will have a greater range. A decrease in operating range could be caused by:
• weather conditions
• nearby radio towers
• structures around your vehicle
• other vehicles parked next to your vehicle.”

Remote Auto Start + Climate Control

Hey Everyone,

Not sure if this should be in the IVT forum or the general forum, but I have a quick question about configuring the remote autostart on my 2013 Explorer Sport.

I live out in the middle of the tundra and it's beginning to be that time of the year where it is always below freezing. I am not sure if the remote auto start is activating the climate controls or if I am just too impatient to notice the temperature difference in my vehicle, but the remote start seems to only blow air around the vehicle when it very first starts (if there is a leaf blower mode, this would be it). The "bun warmers" do not show up as activated as well when I head into the climate options after I start my vehicle as well. I toggled through the dash menus and currently have all of the remote climate options set to "auto"; is it normal behavior for all of these options to turn off once the vehicle is actually started?

Not really a big deal since my last car didn't even have auto start, but just curious what normal operation is. :P

Thanks in advance!

Once you get into the car and 'Start' it in order to drive off, the seat heaters/coolers will turn off (needing to be manually turned back on) and the climate settings should revert to what you had set the last time you drove the vehicle. Those are the normal behaviors of the Explorer and the remote start system.

Sounds good. Appreciate the clarification! :)
As indicated in my PM, I have moved your thread to this existing one on the same topic.
Good luck.

Peter

I noticed when i remote start my explorer and then go into my vehicle to drive of, the heat setting jumps back into windshield mode, meaning just the blowers by the windshield start working, even though when i left the vehicle it was blowing out of the blowers above the nav.
Any advice appreciated

Remote starter/heated seats

Hi everyone. I have tried researching this and found many different posts, but doesn't appear a straight answer. Maybe someone can help me.
I have a 2014 Explorer XLT. I had the dealer install the factory remote, and the app for the phone to start. I found the menu in the screen regarding remote start options. I have tried both the auto setting and the use last settings. I've tried the combinations of turning on the seats, and leaving them off. I cant seem to get the heated seats to come on with either remote starts.
It has been single digits since having this truck, so should be cold enough to come on. Others I have read have had them turn on with options. Is this an issue with XLTs?????
Thanks

I wonder if the dealer didn't update the cluster software to enable remote start commands for heated seats?

Where would the tech find that option??? IS that in the remote start module, or one of the car modules???

As indicated in my PM, I have merged your thread with this existing one. All your questions should be answered in reading post #3 in this thread. 'Auto' is the required setting and the features you want turned ON have to be set in the left hand info screen. Pages 130 and 153 in your Owner's Guide cover this setup. Good luck.

My settings do not have the option to turn on heated seats. As I was reading through the threads I was noticing a lot of people with Sports and Limiteds NOT having this issue, hence I tried a new thread with the concern specific to the XLT.

Is this an XLT only concern???? Any ideas guys and gals please

If you do not have the optional settings to turn on the heated seats, in the left info screen then you can not turn them on with the remote start. The Owner's Guide does not mention specific trim models. It uses the "if equipped" phrase. In this case your XLT is not equipped. I can't comment if that applies to all XLT mdels but I'm guessing it may.

If the vehicle didn't come with Remote Start from the factory, then when it was installed after delivery the remote start options would have to have been enabled by the dealer. The dealer should be able to help you with this concern.

I've been using remote start all winter, it was a cold winter this year. My heated seats never came on during remote start even though I have all the settings correct, and after reading this thread I figured they never will. I would just wait until I got into my car and turn them manually, they warm up fairly quick so I thought no big deal.

This morning I used my remote start through force of habit although it turned out to be warm enough that I didn't need it, it was over 50 F outside. To my surprise my heated seats actually came for the first time during remote start. I checked before I pressed the start button and the seats were warm in the middle but not the sides so the heaters in them were on. It was 5:30 AM and in the garage so nothing else could have heated those seats.

So I joined this forum today and searched for this thread just to point this out. It's crazy that they would only work when it's warm outside.

Remote Start Air Conditioning

I did a forum search for

remote start ac
remote start AC
remote start A/C
remote start air conditioning

no results.

I have a 2013 Limited fully loaded with push button start.

I'm trying to get the air conditioning to work when I use the key fob to remote start the vehicle.

On the left information display I have

Heater-A/C set to Auto
Front Defrost set to Auto
Rear Defrost set to Auto
Driver Seat set to Auto
Passenger Seat set to Auto

When I start the vehicle with the remote start on the key fob I get heat from the defroster and heat from the rear floor vent.

I want to use the remote start on the key fob to start the vehicle to pre cool it before we use it.

What am I doing wrong? The manual is no help.

It seems that the settings are what they should be. Is the cabin temperature above 72 degrees when you use the remote start (see post 3) for temperature requirements. There have been issues with the blend door sticking. If all looks like it should work and your A/C works normally, I suggest you visit your dealer and have them check into it.

BTW, I merged your thread with this existing one.
