Hi
I just got a 53 code on my 1992 Explorer that tell me the voltage of the TPS is too high. I made the test for voltage as stated in haynes manual and the voltage is 4.93volts. Less than the 5 volts as stated in haynes. How could it be possible then that the tps give high voltage codes if its still under the 5 volts range?

Thank you

no the test for tps is key on engine off. when you test it you are supposed to have 5v at wide open throtlle

what is the idle position voltage? Check it several times by pulling the throttle open and letting it snap back-
it should return to exactly the same voltage every time-
It may have given a high idle position reading at some point.

I tested it and its ok.....quite funny that it give me this code because the truck is fine at idle ..even if i suspect a loss of performance on the start of the line

I got that on our '92 and in my case it turned out to be a bad throttle body. After 300k+ miles the TB was getting worn and the butterfly wasn't centered. Now when I took my foot off the throttle it wouldn't always close all the way which was confusing the computer.. I changed the TB and its much happier now (got one off an Aerostar for $20 at a u-pull it place).
