My buddy has a 07 commander with the 4.7 that he removed the muffler on and straight piped it to the stock piping location. Personally, I think it sounds sick. How would my explorer compare if I did the same. The only thing is I would dumped it over the rear wheels just cause I hate the stock pipe location and how it looks

Both vehicles are similar in hp and torque. But let me know what you guys think about it

The 4.6 would sound better. Fords have always produced the best sounding engines.

Really? Alright cool. Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised there isn't more exhaust talk on this forum. Or more people running a straight pipe setup or something similar

Some people need an inspection sticker lol

Haha understandable. Good thing I know a guy. I was more so looking to see if people think it would sound good. Not too many sound clips of explorers with exhaust plus this is my first ford so I'm not super familiar with how they sound.

In the 2G modified forum they have clips (different engine), and you have much discussion about headers, Gibson, magnaflow, cat's backs, twice pipes, etc.

Thanks drdoom. I checked out a few videos of straight piped gen two 5.0s and they sound good to me. Now I'm stuck with which option to go wth. 1st being no muffler with stock popping with turndown over rear axle (basically seeing no pipe from behind) or 2nd option which is add a Ypipe and run two pipes to turndowns over rear axle (Ypipe incase I ever wanted to run duals)

Well got the exhaust done today. Went with a single chamber generic muffler and had them cut off the stock pipe where it bends down by the spare tire so it basically bouncing off the concrete. Sounds pretty good. Not as loud as no muffler but wanted to keep some bp so I can save some power.

Post some sounds.

I don't know! I guess most people use YouTube, which I've not done either.

I'll try to figure something out
