Convert fogs to HID's on 99-01 Explorers

I wonder if anyone has done this?

The fogs in a 99-01 Explorer take a H1 bulb. There are many H1 HID conversion kits on ebay.

I'm tempted to try this on my 01 Limited

Sounds like you can use a 9006 bulb kit.
I dont know what a diferent bulb will do to the beam pattern. But you can check it out...

If you want to use an H1 Kit this is the only modification you have to make. You need to hollow out the inside of the bulb socket.

The reason I mention H1 is because that's the bulb that the round fog light takes. That's where I want the HID's. The standard headlamp above the front bumper would remain halogen.

And the reason I mentioned 9006 is that the H1 can be converted/ substituted to/for the 9006 bulb. It may be an eaiser conversion

They are not the same bulb. The H1 bulb in your fog is in a holder/socket. The 9006 bulb will fit into where the socket does on the lamp body. (Read the link in post #2)
