CRLCustoms Bumper Installed! New Pics!

Cory, I remember a while back, on RRORC, that you made up a tube front bumper for one of the members, looked a bit like a pre runner bumper, but looked a bit stronger than most. I tried to look for pics, and was wondering if you had any.:D I think I may be taking a few trips to KY at some point in the near fututure:)

Was that it?

I have no way of replicating that exactly as it is in the pic, but I could come close. Something like that would run about $475 since it is a lot of work getting that winch mounted between the framerails.

I will be building a winch style bumper for Josh when I get started on his truck. I'll take pics and let everyone know when it is done.

that front bumper on that ranger looks great!
sorry alec.. your's is cool too, but the ranger pic is sweet..
i'd maybe want to put some thin sheet behind parts of the tubes so you can't see stuff behind them. that might look dumb though. i like that bumper cory. i really like the idea of not having one that sticks out an extra 8" like the stock ones.

yeah, I think that's the one, I wouldn't need the winch mounted that far back, in front of the bumper would be fine, just would have to be able to take a pounding. looks like something that has to be modeled around the winch almost, shame I don't have one yet. I can't wait to see what you're gonna do for Josh's bumper.

How bout this, something similar to that bumper, but with a strong front reciever to hold a winch, and when a better approach angle is required, slide the winch out, and I think som diamond plate between those tubes would look great, and keep the weight to a minimum

Have you guys seen the James Duff bumpers?

I was thinking of ordering one in a few weeks for my winch, but wanted to email Cory for something simular first.

EDIT by Alec: what the hell where you looking at besides bumpers?

that would make a nice bumper:D, but I don't think she want to hit trees and stuff.

What?

Sorry guys. I don't know what was on there so I'll try again. Holly ****! I don't know how the hell that got there.

That's what I was looking at.

Buddy just informed me he got some spam in his email. We are staying in a hotel so I let him come over to use my laptop sometimes. Figures the new guy would screw up the forum..:banghead:

lol, that was just too funny:D

Lights are installed!
I think they worked out really well. The 2 brake LEDs are also the right turn signal. The pictures don't look nearly as good as the real thing. Hope y'all approve and don't think I'm dumb anymore

Well...it's different!;)

Could you get a close up of how you mounted them on your rim?

Happy trails!!

I have the front and rear Duff reciever bumpers, I love them. Of course when I bought them they were new from Duff and the price has more then doubled since, I got the front for $160 and the rear for $110, unfinished.

Now they are like $300-350 ea, yikes!

So I jumped on that one, excellent quality. I tow a #3500 boat with the rear, mounted to the frame with grade 10 bolts and it works perfect.

However for the $$$ I would either get my friends to help me bend one up or just go straight to Cory......

Here's a pic of the rear Duff reciever for a 88 BII......the front is awesome, though I have used the front receiver once to date and that was just to back a jet ski trailer in the water this motorhome was having a real hard time with......I plan to get a tray mounted winch that I can install front or rear someday........

The ones on the spare are little license plate bolt LEDs. I drilled 2 holes through the plate that the spare mounts to and glued them in (couldn't get enough room for nuts and washers). They were very easy to mount since the LED is inside the bolt head. Then I just ran the wires down.

The marker lamp is an LED marker lamp I got at Walmart. It's just ziptied to the tube.

I really like the LEDs in the spare. The other one isn't that great, but at least I'm legal now. The marker light is DOT approved, the other 2 aren't. But I don't think they're gonna get me on DOT approval. Oh, and you can't see it in the pic, but I also put a red reflector on the hinge since in Texas you need 2 red reflectors on the rear.

Alec,

What did you use for those lights?

I want a 3rd brake light right smack in the middle of my spare but I dont want to pay big $$$ for one of those aftermarket lights build specifically for this purpose.....

I think it looks weird!!! Definatley different! hahaha....
But there is nothing wrong with weird..........

Good solution....now just shave your stock taillights and mount LED's everywhere!!!

Sweet, I was wondering about that break light. I guess it's still legal this way?

Y'all reply too quickly ;) I answered both of you in my above post.

Oh, the ricer LEDs were $7 for the pair, the marker lamp was $8.

Nice job Alec! Looks good. I don't think anyone will hassle you, especially with the big ol' third brake light mounted up top. I believe that was the origional intent with mounting a third light was if something happended to the any of the OEM to make sure cars behind could still see red.

ACtually the third brake light is up high so that cars behind cars can see them..........meaning if you are behind a van in your honda civic you have that much better of a chance seeing the third brake light of the car in front of the van through the windows/over the roof.whatever with the center mounted up high 3rd brake light.

Now as far as the third brake light being there "in case" something happens to the OEM light, thats just hooey, it is your reponsibility as a vehicle owner to maintain the vehicle and keep all lights functioning properly..........

Muskrat,

I really hate winch trays that slide into receiver mounts. I think they are entirely a waste of time and the pros don't outweigh the cons.

I, for one, am too lazy to lug a winch out whenever I get stuck and put it back whenever I need the approach angle. I'd rather have it sitting on the bumper.

Plus, I've seen those slide in mounts get stuck when someone had to do a side pull and it wedge itself in the hitch.

That said, I will try to design the bumpers to be able to add a winch mount easily and incorporate a receiver (more for a place to put a shackle insert) when I make Josh's.

Cory,
Do I'm aware that you like to use pipe, but do you think this is the answer?
This has winched me out of places, plus with my 3" BL it looks flush

and my other opinion, With the tire on the drivers side your visibility is better. You look over your right shoulder, or can look out the window or drivers side mirror and see all of what is back there better. I think I learned that tip from Perry, but it makes most sense for visibility.

Wow Dannyboy, that bumper is HUGE on the front. Looks very good and stout, but what kind of an approach angle do you have?

Happy trails!!
