Crown King + 2wd open = strapage??

...Let's just say I was testing my Daily Driver, now I know what she can take...A few more trips like this and it may turn into a "Project Ranger"...:dunno:

...It was one of those trails that has a lot of, as you say, "Yummy" things to try out ...and I over did it early....From all the other stuff I played on this year, it's due for some maintenence...

...But yes, I could have taken it easy but like a kid in a candy store, I got over excited...But I had a blast and will definately remember this trip...:burnout:

...This doesn't include the other carnage we seen on the trail...A yukon went up this and bashed in it's radiator...At the very top there was a pretty new superduty upside down, smooshed, and left there...

You should have snagged the SD Axles:D

You know, messing up your truck...and then fixing Danny's kichen...It's kinda a wash...not really a money making venture:rolleyes:

...If it was about the money, I would drive a Prius...:p:

...This trip was all about having fun...;)

...But I will take it easy with my Explorer at Truckhaven......:D

...:shifty_ey ...I seen Danny working on the video tonight...

...I forgot to mention...When I lost the front pumpkin I also bent my cross member so now the front driveshaft rubs when it's spinning

Did you bend the Radius Arm cross member? I bent that on Crown King a few times..

Here was my solution.. It keeps the rocks from grabbing the thin bracket..

What a fun trail. Rick and I did it back in 2001 and I really enjoyed running it. It does look like it has gotten tougher since then; I don't recall any obstacles that look as challenging as what I see in a couple of the photos.

Gerald, did you forget about the pic on "Herc's" page??

...Mark, whose black first gen was that in the second video???...I will take some pics of the engine and cross member tomorrow and post them in the eve...;)

...I am leaving Scottsdale tomorrow before noon and heading home...I haven't heard from the Nor-Cal job...:dunno:...

...I was greeted with a CEL last night, P0401......Hopefully it will be a vacuum hose or it can hopefully wait till I get home...

...Crown King is a must do this winter if gas prices keep going down...Plenty of camping in the area too......I would like to bring the X out here next time...

...Mark, whose black first gen was that in the second video

his EF name was Cloaked Chaos. He hasn't signed on in a year or so..

I wonder if I scared him with the trip.. His dad got out of the rig a few times when he was going on some obsticles but it looked/felt like he had fun (Cloaked Choas that is).

...Since my R.A.'s are stock, and is most of my ranger, I've been thinking...That cross member may be useless this time next year...

...I'm just about ready to head out...I fueled up and it is down to $3.17 here...Wish it was lower at home..

...The first pic is my bent cross member and shaft...On the videos you will here it, but only when the front left tire droops more than an inch...

...The second pic is my rear tire that I hope holds out till I get home...and the third pic is of under the hood, you can see whee the motor met the hood...

Oops. I guess I've already re-used those brains cells, LOL. I do remember that being a really fun trail that I'd love to do again someday.

...Maybe you can do it in 2wd this time ...It's a lot more fun that way...:D

That rock catching crossmember (seems even wirse with stock radius arms and drop brackets...) was the main reason we went with the Tuff Country kit and extended rad arms...

And as for the motor hitting the hood, our Ranger is also a 5 speed 4 banger, seems its only real option was the electric shift Tcase... Anyway, when the motor mounts failed again, we decided to build something sturdier and captured. Stock 4 pot mounts bring the suck.

All can be seen in the Photobucket link and write up is at my local club forum, Utah 4x4 Club

Before we really even got to wheel the thing after its rebuild, we're going to ditch the D35 and swap in a D30 SAS. Many reasons. But primarily, cost.

zjrog,

...My little Ranger is usually saved for Daily Driving and places like Big Bear and Pismo Beach...I usually take my Project X out on the harder stuff but this time was special...:D

...If I were to turn this into an offroad vehicle I surely wouldn't leave open carriers in it...I think I would change that first...;)

...Dannyboy, If you send that video out here, I know someone who could load it...:D ..

...Just checking on the video update...I was hoping to snag a couple pics off of it for my Ranger if thats possible..:dunno:

...I got a few snippets of video from Dannyboy...Thank you Danny...:D

...This may be the only one I have right now that is good enough quality to post...I will post more as they come in...

Crown King Strappage -This is after the front axle carnage in my 95 Ranger and Dannyboy had to double up on the strap to get me up the ledges and around the old Hotel ruins...This is at the infamous left turn as Danny was driving into the bush's...Enjoy

Crown King Arizona Carnage - I was bound and determined since Dannyboy didn't make it up this climb, I was going to...Even if my Ranger has open Carriers and a 2.3L motor...Amongst all the herkin and jerkin, my truck made the last effort and broke...I was that close and you can hear when it let go...You can also hear Dannyboy's evil laugh as it happens( it got cut short by youtube)...:D

..Goodtimes...:biggthump

...There is a video of a nice ravine climb of both Dannyboy and myself, at the beginning of the trail...When I get it, I'll post it...;)
