I was reading in one of the 4x4 rags that if you give them at least 4-months notice then they will include you event on their calender.

My question is jave the moderators or administrator notified the 4x4 rags?

I think it would be nice to actually get some acknowledgement for the offroad Explorer community. Perhaps it will also increase attenedance at all three events.

I was reading the same thing and was thinking it would be a great idea also. There are going to be 3 events for the Explorer club, maybe they could make atleast one of them. They love Jeeps so much maybe they can show us some love instead! :D

Hey, if you've already got info about a 4x4 mag, go ahead and inform them. Great idea :)

Should we inform them of our east coast run or should we inform them of all three at once?

I would say all 3. I think we would have a better chance of them comming even though it might not be a certain run that you or I might go to. I think the extra exposure would be great for the site.

Also, if we only told them about one of the runs first, then they might think they should ONLY go to that one because it was the first one or the main one. I also think it would be great exposure for the site.

Did anyone follow through with this? If not I am going to submit to all the mags.

What's the name of the offroad park in Crozet??

I dont think anybosy has done any notification. I checked their website xjsrule.com and they do not give it a name. We could check with Chris and Heather.

Shouldn't we notify the 4x4 rags about all three events?

I sent an e-mail to Chris asking him. He may have a name for it since the VA rockcrawling competition was held there.

I have not notified them. I think it would be a great idea if you did it Rick.

Ok, will do. I have also sent out press releases to many industry publications:

Serious Explorations to Celebrate 10th Anniversary in 2006 with Multiple Events

PHOENIX, December 1 – Serious Explorations, the Internet’s #1 Ford Explorer enthusiast community, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2006 with events in Moab, Utah; Attica, Indiana; and Crozet, Virginia.

Serious Explorations was launched in 1996 by Rick Horwitz of Phoenix, Arizona. Horwitz wanted to show how capable the Ford Explorer could be.

“As the term ‘sport utility vehicle’ replaced ‘four-by-four,’ many owners also thought the ruggedness of the four-wheel drive vehicle was lost,” said Horwitz.

“In actuality, the Ford Explorer was as capable as any four-wheel drive predecessor. I knew it, and thought others should, too.”

Horwitz’s creation, which includes multiple interactive forums, blossomed to over 40,000 members. These members represent stock as well as highly-modified off-road and street-cruising Ford Explorers, Mercury Mountaineers, Mazda Navajos, and Ford Rangers. Owners and fans of the vehicles share maintenance tips, modifications, and plan enthusiast events across the country and globe.

The success of Serious Explorations has not gone unnoticed. Ford Motor Company engineers accompanied members in their off-road explorations of Moab, Utah; Colorado’s ghost towns and 13,000 foot peaks; and the Southern California desert’s Truck Haven Hills.

“In addition to having a great time,” Horwitz commented, “the engineers learned much about how we challenge our vehicles off of the pavement.”

In 2006, the community will celebrate the success of Serious Explorations with three off-road events across the United States. The first, on May 13-14, will be held in Moab, Utah, where owners will explore Utah’s famed slickrock trails. On June 17-18, owners will traverse the Badlands Off-road park in Attica, Indiana. Finally, on June 24-25, owners will gather in Crozet, Virginia. Each event will be highlighted by a dinner and raffle.

Horwitz can’t help but show pride in the online community.

“Even though the group became quite diverse, it never lost its community feel,” said Horwitz. “We have unmodified vehicles, some of the lowest low-riders, and some of the most capable four-by-fours you will ever see.

“For as different as our vehicles can be, we all share a common enthusiasm for the vehicles and a common bond between community members.”

I am doing that thing where you make a fist move it around in a circle and go whoo, whoo, whoo in my deepes and loudest voice!

I just snail mailed press releases to Off-Road, Fourwheeler, 4WD&SU, and Off-Road Adventures. I also emailed their editors with the info. I also went around to a bunch of the "big" 4x4 sites and sent their editors press releases. Hopefully we'll get some good press from this.

Oh and I also emailed one of the engineers from Ford that I have kept in touch with. I asked him if he could reccomend a person within Ford to send the PR to. Who knows, maybe Ford would like to join us again.

That's awesome Rick! Nice release too, that's gotta make you proud when you read something like that to look back at what you started.

that's one of the funniest things i've read in a while... :D

Count me in

My '98 XLT is bone stock but I'd like to try some of the easier trails to see how much I like wheeling. I've been a passenger before and had a blast. Now that I own a 4x4 I can't wait to get it off-road.

Who's been there before? What's it like? Will my stock X handle the level 1 trails? Also, is there a place to camp?

Don't worry about being stock. One of the main reasons that Crozet was selected is because of its closeness to the GWNF. In the GWNF there are lots of stock level trails. Some of us are going to go to Crozet before the anniversay run to check out the trails. Keep checking the fourm we will let you know what to expect.
