I just unplugged mine.. I didn't think they were worth the trouble.

of course, you should check your fuses with a meter to ensure there isn't a blown one... a likely candidate. Both DRL lights out with highs still working sounds like a source power problem to your DRL module (ie. fuse problem).

I just unplugged mine.. I didn't think they were worth the trouble.

I did the same before I installed a HID kit on my '99 Explorer. These kits don't work well when DRL enters the equation. I'm not missing them one bit.

I dont think you have a choice to not have DRLs in Canada.

I dont think you have a choice to not have DRLs in Canada.

It's law that all new vehicles and those imported from abroad must contain DRL, but I see many vehicles daily without them. I've never heard of anyone getting ticketed for not having them since the rule went into effect at least 10+ years ago.

The dealer for my other car refused to disable the DRL's though... and I think it was '91 model year cars and newer that had to be equipped with them.

when you start it up - just get in the habit of turning the lights on? Done deal right?

90 up had factory DRL, most fords have them by the driver side rad support, its roughly a 4X5" black box with fins, looks like a mini amplifier. If they go bad usually your DR lights dim or the DRLs do not operate, you can disable them by buying the US part number for DRL delete(disconnecting the DRL module on some cars disables the high beam indicator lamp), im 90% sure you can just buy the module to add DRLs(turns high beams on about 50% power when in on position acc II). 9 times out of 10 if the DRLs are inoperative just change the module from a wrecker with lower kms, if it doesnt work im sure the working one you have will fail sooner or later anyways:D, about 50$ used

Thanks everyone for your responses, but yes, in Canada apparently are a requirement for the annual inspection. If the vehicle is fitted with DRL they have to be working. that's what "Buddy" are the garage told me anyway!...... I thought about the fuses, but I'm pretty sure the fuse for the DRL is also for the interior dash lights - they work!!!...... I did in fact get into the habit of turning on the lights whenever I get into the vehicle I don't think "Buddy" cares about that!

Thanks Guys.

requirement for the annual inspection.

We don't have annual inspections in AB, at least not for newer vehicles. Chances are, your module is shot. Pretty common problem actually. I once had one replaced under warranty. Call up a dealer and find out how much they cost. It's a pretty simple replacement.

If I ever have to deal with inspections, I'll just hook up the module again and put the halogens back in for the inspection. Would take about 5-10 minutes to do.

I think that's a great idea to have madatory DTRL. There's nothing I hate more than some jerk who decides he's too good to use his lights here in Michigan during some nasty stow or rain storm!

Man i thought only people in Mn thought they were too good for headlights on in snow\rain storms.

But my DTR's have never worked since i got my explorer. Which was a little over a year ago.
