I think even though Delta thinks people are sending them Ford rockers for rebuild, they aren't. Delta is getting cheap, soft rockers from people for rebuild. That would explain why one bank is made of soft rockers, and the other side seems fine.

The compressed rocker definitely creates noise though. Suddenly, you need a longer push rod (Also means that your valve isn't opening as far as it should, I would think).

With the labor involved in changing rockers, I wouldn't use Delta rockers. Too many of us have experienced issues.

Well hopefully people will use this thread as a reference when there lokking to replace theirs. Im gonna call and get a measuring tool and talk to thr guy at the machine shop about just checking out my heads cause those have a one year warranty. He would probably do it for me cheap because ive done a lotta buisness with him and the dealer i work at uses him all the time. And it looks like my lifters are now backordered until the 23rd

Delta cam ones sent to me with the rockers, been in there for the past 1500 miles. Its funny i thught stock was 5.475, can it be that deltacam is just low quality?

Thats very very very close.like i said they made three different size rods,i dont know why but assume its they changed head gasket material or lifter spec i really dont know that.thats within spec tho.

I was going to say, .005 is not a hell of a lot. Wonder what they were prior to installation. Maybe I will run what I receive from Delta and measure it all up before installation. If they start making noise I can pull them and measure again. I can also measure the heads and make sure they are in spec prior to installation too. We could do a thread on the final word on Delta rocker assemblies...

Any wear on the pushrod or pushrod cup?if not its just the rocker hasnt been treated right, its soft!!also drilling it out to fit the cup makes it very weak!!

Ive done all that but with smithbrothers rods.only thing that wears or breaks is their pushrod cup or the valve tip wears.they break because they have to drill the cup out to make up for what they gring off the other end, witch i believe changes the ratio of it,i dont have the tools to test this.the valve tip wears because they are not heat treating them right or after so many heat cycles it changes the property of the metal.either way it cost the same to rebuild your with sealed power ones.and why would you even order or keep these,i would not install them at all and send them back.you spend more on gaskets and time than its worth

Yeah, I get what you are saying. I do wonder if the aftermarket cam and stronger springs have any effect as well... Delta Ken said he has never seen any "properly installed" rockers break. No doubt that if they are rebuilding crappy rockers your get rebuilt crap. You can put lipstick on a pig and you still end up with a pig...

I don't mind using what he sends me. I will document them. Pics, measurements, run them and see what happens. I already paid for them and in the end if I have to buy a few Sealed Power rockers I don't really care.

He is full of it!!i sent him my pis and the pieces and rocker.he sent me a single rocker to replace it,this is after one whole shaft wore down and he sent me a new whole shaft.the one that broke was on the other side after i replaced the driverside with the shaft he send me.it was less than 500 miles when it broke and both sides showed wear.yes a bigger cam will cause more wear with stock spring, not dual tho.

I do agree if the mileage and heat cycles affect the metal then yes there is nothing they can do but drilling the cup out making the cup socket thinner is purely on them

Im takin the heads to get measured tomorrow if i have time on my lunch break. Guys got new thickness and service limit specs, i supposently have new heads so well c. Jusy got done chekin them with a straight edge and were good there. If there in spec im just gonna order 5.475 smith bros and call it a day when my lifters come. If i have the material left to deck them you all think i should just for the small compression increase?

Witch truck is this in again, what cast are the heads?every 3cc i think was a half point and yea i would shave them but you cant go to much, again depends on the witch head it is.

I was wondering about what all you had happen and how Delta dealt with it. You wore out a shaft too?

Hmmm...

I thought you were running double springs?

toomany, how many pushrods did you measure? Just one?

I am running 988s.no i measured every rod.yes i wore out a whole shaft.ive rebuild my motor three time.only difference is the last time i went to 422 cam and shaved the heads, port work and had the whole thing blueprinted, balanced,cc,port and polished and had everything machined and built to run 10.5:1the replacements and broken rocker was all replaced before ,with new pushrods this build and the rockers showing even more wear now and need to be replaced.pushrods had no wear,i sent them back and the replaced them with shorter ones to my machine specs.ive got thousands of dollars in my motor,it is not because they was improperly installed or measured. Look at user DONO thread he had very little mileage on his and they wore, switched them out for sealed powers and has been fine sense.i think the people that do runs these just became use to the sound of tapping and write the noise off as normal,it should take AWILE to get back to that normal ohv noise

Dont get me wrong they have worked with me and replaced the parts wile denying they have seen it,its just their third strike and im completely done, dont want money back or anything

Man i need to learn how to quote... Ok so this is my 98 explorer, i believe that would make tgem 98tm? I measured every pushrod for an average of 5.470. And i thought with delta rockers they sent you small than stock anyways to make up for the cup but .005 isnr much diffrrence, wouldnt that make mine too long if 5.475 is stock rockers?

Jd if you keep talking about your engine mods im gonna end up tearing this whole thing out and blow my savings...

Hahahaah i would say dont do it!!unless you just want a bad ass v6,i just wanted something different. variety is the spice of live;) ive pushn $10000 under my hood and thats with me doing all the work and having a machine shop at my disposal. Im not trying to bash anyone, that is not me(first person voted most helpful for a free membership ;) ) just sharing mine and others experiences

Listen buddy, I totally hear what you are saying. If I knew all things I would have just ordered some pushrods and rockers and rebuilt it myself.

I know I sure appreciate all your knowledge and willingness to share your experience.

That's what makes this place so cool...;)

I didnt bother going back to Delta on my issue either. Between the cost of shipping, and frustration, it just wasnt worth it to me.
As JD said, I probably had under 5000 km on mine, and my motor was noisy. Changed out lifters, and no more ticking. So, I sure hope your experience is going to bedifferent.
