delta cam rocker arms trashed

hey one more question for you guys, i ordered sealed power rockers, you think ill be alright to rebuild the delta cam ones or should i dig up an old set i have? only thing that concerns me is if delta ground down the area that mates to the head. I guess I could always measure and compare, but the delta ones are a lot cleaner and shinier
thanks again

Wow am i reading that right? 0.089 off?? What measurement is that?

huh? already ordered them. I was just guessing at the measurements because I left the paper in my toolbox at work. It was minimal, and the guy at the machine shop said I wont have a problem and the guy from j and c says all the "new" aftermarket heads he sells are that thickness, and has no problem with them. So why should I hold the phone? whats up

just re-read my post, both the heads are not very far off. that was what they are compared to the service limit

^^^^ this.if its really that far off then there is something wrong!!

So is one head 8.880 and other is 8.791

no, lemme try and remember this.
new heads from ford are like 8.95, service limit is 8.80.
one of my heads is like 8.791 and one head is like 8.788.
i think thats at least close, this is making me wanna run back to work and get that damn paper

Haha ok that would be ok.i thought you was saying it was .089 off!! Even the ford specs is pretty dang far apart thats what .050 i figured anymore than .040 and you run into a problem just from all my measurements.anything over .020 and you need to port match the lower intake with the heads as they sit on the block.if i was you i would take .010 off the shorter head and have the other shaved to match the new shorter head.

well right now there both under the service limit, if i had em decked anymore they would be wayyyy under the service limit

any thoughts? apperently my lifters are coming tomorow, i dont know why summit keeps jerkin my johnson around but i have a ups tracking number, so im not complaining. guess I have my sunday planned out

That would be the point.if they are about .010 and you take or even them both to .020 under you would gane about a half point on compression.more power and efficiency and everything else would still work with no ill effects.you would end up with the same thing dono did.stock ohv is 9:1 sohc is 9:8 witch is around what taking that much off takes you too

I would double check but pretty sure they dont touch the pedestals. Do you plan on sending delta stuff back?if so im sure the want them still assembled with the shaft

i would use the ford shafts. deltas got a bad rep going for them. why risk the shafts too?

and damnit i wish i spent about a grand more for dual springs, porting and block work. (422 would be same price, no extra $ there)
to late now, cause id just swap in a 302 next time

well at this point I could careless about sending them back/getting my money back, i just want my truck back. My 93 explorer is down with a cracked exhaust manifold and I dont plan on fixing it, i just wanna pull the trans/transfer case and part the thing out. And I've been driving my 91 and I had it on the lift today and my trans cooler lines are so rusty there pourous and leaking, and my brake line from rabs to rear splitter is literally falling apart, been there done that on the 93 and that line SUCKS.
And...... my 91 is currently 2wd (Front driveshaft removed due to headers burning through the boot) and my luck well get a freakin blizzard next week.
BTW i feel better now...

^^^ vent on brother;)

0.012 and 0.009 under service limit number is what im reading.

Thats what I read also. There is no way it could be .089 off and be told its ok.

I had to think for a minute also when I read it.

Im a bit surprised they didn't shave the one slightly to make them both the same. I guess its just so close, its not worth it.

edit:It looks like I missed some conversation in my reply. This is old news.

One thing I noticed is that with felpro lower intake gaskets, the lower intake already sits a bit higher than it should. Then, being under the service limit (In my case, shaving .02 off) the lower intake sits even higher. In my case, Im considering shaving my lower intake a bit to make a flush mounting surface for the valve covers. Question is...Whats 'a bit'?

Only reason I'm posting this is that I think its relevant to all of us.

This is what im talking about if you go more than .020 it has to be ported with your heads.the use old gaskets and bolts and bolt the shaved heads and lower intake down but they trim the lower intake gasket so it just under it not around the ports and put a marking compound around the ports to show what and where each others sit.then the port both to match.or something like that, thats how it was explained to me.you cant just machine the lower to fit i was told.probably because of the angles of the heads and lower manifold idk.anything less than .020 should pull down to flush after torq
