These are listed as new on tirerack and after reading up I noticed they have the silica-based tread which should give them better tration in the wet. I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with these? (even better if you can compare them to the REVOs)

On a side note, I think I've narrowed my search to the BFG KOs (hard to get atm as BFG is changing the speed rating for the new line), Bridgestone Duelers (prob the REVOs, though I did see a guy who said he thought the non-REVO performed better on-road), or the Michelin LTX. I looked at the Goodyear Silent Armors as recommended to me in another post but I can't even count how many complaints I've read about balancing problems with those and GYs in general so I will most likely avoid them (mostly b/c I want something for longetivity as well as performance).

I don't do any off-roading, but we live in a rural area where some of the on-road driving can get really rough in bad weather. I also usually go about 85 on I-80 and want something that's gonna feel solid at those speeds when its dry and say around 70 in the rain without hydroplaning.

Right now I'm running Goodyear Wrangler R/Ts in the front (came with the truck) and Liberators in the back (junkyard tires to replace the balded R/Ts) so anything will be an improvement but I want something that will perform and last (tires aren't cheap)

I'm buying something this week as the Liberators in the rear are down to dangerously low tread and yesterday it seems my wife ran over a spike strip running from the cops (no, not really but there is a large jagged-toothed piece of metal sticking out of the tire). The fronts have decent tread but not nearly good enough for winter plus they are starting to dry rot.

good tires. firestone has them on sale.

I'll toss in a vote for Michelin LTX M/S. They improved my ride ALOT

I have been eyeing Pirelli Scorpion ATR or Firestone Destination A/T for my g/f's mom's F-150. They have very good ratings on Tirerack:

I've lost all faith in tirerack ratings. :( I started to read them in detail and noticed there is a very large number of reviews that don't match up with the tire they are listed under. i.e. a guy will leave a review for BFGs and he'll say something like 'these Michelins suck.' I noticed at least 10% of the ratings/reviews are clearly for the wrong tire so I wonder how many of the others are in the wrong place also (i.e. the people who don't name the tire in the review).

I did look at the Pirellis but they seemed to be 1 of those tires that needs a '5-mile warmup' which coudl be a problem for me since the 1st 5 miles are the worst in inclement weather.

OK so having narrowed it down I hit a few local shops to see if I could see some of these in person.

The KOs look a bit too aggressive for doing 85 on the interstate or cornering the way I do. Therefore, I'm ruling these out for my needs.

I couldn't find the REVOs anywhere. I found some other Duelers and looks like a somewhat aggressive tire. I know the REVOs are supposedly more agressive than these - I really wish I could have seen them in person.

The Michelin LTXs definitely look more like a highway tire and I think they would beat out the REVOs in that area, but I don't know if they could match the REVOs in inclement weather. If I'm going to be realistic here though, rain is very common here whereas snow is not and the LTXs look like they would be able to tread water pretty well.

Ah when did buying tires become so complicated ... hehe
