my dust shields are mangled and i have seen on a few websites that you dont really need dust shields, im not sure about that though. it will still be my DD after the swap (at least for awhile). What do you guys think?

P.S. dumb question, but if i try and staighten them out, do they go on before the caliper brackets or after. My manual doesnt say and niether do most of the D44 rebuild sites.

My dust shields I belive are attached to the caliper bracket. They dont seem to be that neccesary. I never ran them on my dana 35 in my 86 ranger. The only reason I run them on my SAS is cause they are in good shape and I was too lazy to cut them off.

I removed mine years ago they seemed to me like they would keep heat in not exposing the rotor to all the air, the cooler my brakes the better.

Never had an issue

I run them on my dedicated crawling rig. I left them on because I thought they would keep the mud/brush out of the rotor and other parts. If they get mangled I will just take them off.

I recently had my hands on a beefy pair of dust shields with built in brake caliper bracket. It was 1 solid 1/4" piece but it was for the 6 bolt chevy spindles.

I was trying to find another one (one was in good condition, the other was in pieces), then XplorerKid told my to take them off...so I did. (peer pressure :p) If I were you, I'd leave them off. But if you want a good one, PM me and I'll ship you the good one I've got left. :)

ok, so there is no major drawbacks. i think i will leave them off then!

I like that idea, I may give that a try.

it's the latest craze lol

I left mine on since they were new.
If it aint broke, don't fix it. :p

Plus you have to think that the car manufactures put them on all cars/trucks for a reason. They don't just throw away money like that.

When restoring my TTB I tried to buy some new dust shields @ the dealer  but they don't carry them.. The Ford parts manual lists them as unnecessary...

Just about all the rigs I see here don't have them.
