I have a 98 Explorer and the factory alarm goes off by itself. It has a mind of its own. It goes off during the day and in the middle of the night and I'm tired of it. So everynight I have to disconnect the battery so it won't go off in the middle of the night:thumbdwn:.

I lubed up all the door latches, thinking the latch might be sticking but that did not work. I looked at the hood latch switch and it is not damaged and it does move when I pushed it down. Is there a way to test the hood latch switch if is it good or bad?

Is there a way to completely disable the factory alarm? I know the module is the the back where the spare tire iron is kept. But I do not know which module is which. I would like to disable the factory alarm, it is useless to me. Which module is the alarm? And what wires are for the alarm?

When my parents had my Explorer, they had a similar, or same, problem.

A new battery solved the problem.

I've got a similar problem, and am quite interested in disabling the factory alarm. I've already ripped out the alarm's horn so all it does is flash the parking lights haha

Anybody out there have any ideas?

Does the factory alarm have its own separate horns?

+1
Try another battery for a week and see if it doesn't straighten out. The battery voltage needs to be well over 12.6 v to hold the relays open.
Also, clean the connections real well, double check the 10 gauge black ground leads to the radiator support . SHould be <2 ohms

I checked the battery voltage and it is at 12.65 volts. The battery cables and grounds are clean.

Yeah, well try another battery anyway. Serious.

It is not a battery problem. I brought the battery to Autozone to get it tested, and it is a good battery. My friend has an Optima battery that is a year old and I borrowed the battery from him. About 25 mins after connecting the battery the dam alarm went off. GRRRR I really hate this factory alarm!

Anyone else have this alarm problem with their Ford Explorer?

No, the factory alarm uses the regular horn.

Just unplug the module. Its in the back on the left side. It could be black or white, maybe even gray, depending the year. (my '94 +'95 its black, the '01 I stripped was white.) It has to connectors coming out of the bottom, a 26 pin and a 22 pin (not all pins are used, but there are spots for that many wires.)

The one out of my '01 even says: remote keyless/anti-theft, right on the sticker. They cant make it any easier to figure out then that.

If you unplug it you will lose your keyless entry.
