FAKRWEE Navajo 44 swap

My new front end got in today. It's a custom Dynatrac 44 front axle assembly.

List of goodies include:
Reverse cut housing upgrade
Warn premium manual locking hub set
30 spline 3/4 ton alloy steel axles
Upgraded Disc brake Ass. 5.5.5
Ford coil spring bracketry
5:13 gears-reverse cut
ARB 3.92+ ver.
1310 dana 44 u-bolt style yoke
Heavy duty ends package
Heavy duty steel dif. cover
High clearance steering package
Width= 62 in.

I saved my pennies for quite awhile to be able to afford it but she's a beauty. I almost feel like not installing it.

I hope the pictures come out my battery started going dead.

The installer is fourxDr. in Burbank and Winter's designing the radius arms. We know they will be wristed but will not have pin's like bc broncos. I'll include pictures as we go along. Today they took apart the front end. I'm hoping the job will take about a month.

The way we meaured the 30'' travel was first we measured the drooped side of the axle from the lowest point of the end to the floor. That was 8''.

Then we measured the stuffed tire the same way. Measured 38''.

A lot of chop chop to make the 37'' stuff in there.

Thanks Burton. It's been quite the experience. I took a different approach to the project. When I started all I knew was what I wanted the rig to do not how to do it. The only thing I knew for sure was that I was going with the D44. Other than that the suspension has been trial and error.

Looking really good Tom. I think one of these days, we need to have an Explorer contest. You know how fourwheeler has there top truck challenge. We could take some you guys with the awesome rigs and find a place to go and test everything out. (once all the bugs are out). Have a little pow-wow.

I think the Explorer Challenge is a good idea. The FAKRWEE is always up for a pow-wow. As a matter of fact it was discussed in a thread about a year ago but was never followed up upon.

I think a good idea to get it going is start a thread for people to post who have done extreme mods to their rigs. The list of people doing SAS is growing everyday. I can't keep track of them. We even have people from Venezuela doing it. Anyway just a thought

Fakrwee I neeeeed your front bumper. But seriously, its a very nice setup. I'm not so much interested in the departure angles as I am the winch tray and multimount reciever capabilities. Did Winter Douglas work from some shop drawings when he fabricated it or just did it? How would I get more specs on how long/wide/deep the reciever mount is, how it's mounted to the bumper/frame and the design of the winch tray?

AJ The bumper was designed by Winter with the fab guy to the specs I wanted. The rig is at the shop right now getting the SAS. I'll measure and take some pictures next time I go visit the Navajo.

The reciever is incorporated in the bumper with two gutters on each side of tray for lateral support. The winch and winch tray slide into the reciever in between the gutters and the pin is behind the bumper. The bumper is bolted onto the frame. Hope this helps.

The rig is being worked on in Burbank, Ca. by 4xDr. Mike the owner does a lot of work for Four Wheeler and other magazines. If you ever go to Burbank let me know and I'll give you directions on how to get there and you can check out the Navajo. He always has different projects going on.

Hi Bill. I won't be able to go to T-Haven even if the Navajo is ready, Which I doubt. I have to go to Seattle on Thanksgiving. My niece was in an car accident a week ago and is parralized. It's been pretty hard on the family and we're all spending Thanksgiving with her.
But there's always tomorrow Take a lot of pics.
