I fit 32's on my 96 2wd with only a tt and shackled. I just pulled the plastic rocker moldings off the side and fit without a problem. If you want to go higher that 2" with a 2wd you can, i only went up about 2" and i fit the 32's.

I would do it but my Dad just doesnt like it because its unsafe and doesn't want me to change factory settings.
I just want to know how much more of a difference the feel would be with atleast like 2 inches or so. And how crucial it is to get the alignment. Like right away or could I wait a week or so. Im not doing this until I get 31's though and only if it looks stuffy to me so yeah.

I did TT and Shackles with 31" mudders on my '97. The ride is different, but you're not high enough to make a huge difference. I kept the front sway bar, but removed the rear. The front is stiff and the rear is soft. I like it because I can still drive on pavement and take turns. I didn't do an alignment and havn't had any problems for thousands of miles. As far as looks...I wish I had put 33" AT tires on instead. Tell your dad you can reverse the whole thing back to stock in about an hour, with no damage to the truck.:navajo:

When you say the rocker moldings, is that the little fender piece kind of under the door close to the wheel?

oh and can I see a picture of your's carlover?
And bad, can I also see a picture?

that is how the addiction started....with a TT. Then a BL, then a 3 inch spindle lift, then a B-rated T-bar and moreTT.
be careful, be really careful.. hehehe.

hahaha yeah seriously I hope I dont go overboard with this. Thank God there's not a body lift for my year. And that I dont know anything about a spindle lift haha
Hopefully after I can fit atleast 32's if I'm still thinkging about it, I'll be done with looks. Then Im going for performance and gas mileage.

with 32's youll want to change out you gears to 4.10's to get any kind of performance or gas mileage. I just swapped out from 3.27's to 4.10's and wow what a difference. Just something to think about with the bigger tires. And plus youll tranny will live longer.

And yes there is a body lift for your year explorer, its made for a ranger but will fit an ex. A spindle lift is just that, it replaces your stock spindles with larger ones for a 3 inch lift.

hmm, maybe I'll just go with 31's then/for now. I dont really want to deal with gears and other things like that.

1st-2.47:1
2- 1.86:1
3- 1.47:1
4- 1:1
5- .75:1

I'm not very mechanical. I got those of the explorer specs on the home page. Everything I have is stock except for the shackles and shocks haha

Yeah I dont know. Like I said, I'm not mechanical. I dont know what the difference is
I'm guessing I'm just goin with 31's anyway
I dont want to have to change gearing
And kill my gas mileage also.

Axle codes on the driver side door

D4 - 3.73 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
D2 - 4.10 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer

Yes call me a moron but i am new to trucks. so were are the torsion bars..oh and will 31s fit on a 90 ranger 4x4 stock?

mitch 4x4, torsion bars i believe are only on 98 and newer trucks...for your truck go to fatbobsgarage.com and look for suspension parts on your year...

wow okay first off the kid who started this thread asked if he could lift his 21wd Explorer 2" or more with the torsion twist.

Answer is yes and he is not limited to the 1.5-2" lift us 4x4 guys need to stay in as to not explode our cv shafts.

The 2wd torsion trwist can be done for more lift but the ride WILL suffer because you are changing the ride height setting of the front end (lack of droop travel)

If I had a 2wd Gen II explorer I would consider a spindle lift with mild torsion twist to fit tires

hahaha yeah seriously I hope I dont go overboard with this. Thank God there's not a body lift for my year. QUOTE]

Also there is a body lift available for all years of the Explorer as far as I know, I even see body lifted gen III's now
Just because they dont sell a specific lift kit for your year doesnt mean other Ford kits wont work, check out the search button on this forum...

To Clarify a bit:

84-97 Ranger 4x4 is TTB front suspension (beams) dana 28 or dana 35
91-94 Explorer 4x4 is dana 35 TTB
95+ explorer 4x4 is a arm independant torsion sprung IFS
Sport trac and Ranger Edge 4x4 are similar to Gen II Explorer
