Our 2013 Eco Boost has already had enough problems, and I complained loud enough, with the Dealer's help, that Ford Regional issued me a free 5/80,000 ESP Premium plan.....So, maybe they really do care, but I will never buy another Explorer. It's been just such an aggrevation...best regards Plum

Ford Extended Warranty Question

If I purchased the Ford extended warranty when I purchased my vehicle, would it be safe to assume that the warranty is good at any Ford dealership?

My dealership is 40 miles out and I am debating whether I should continue to go out there for work. I know if he does my oil changes, which are part of my package, and tire rotations, that I get my next two (2) sets for free. I'm just debating the 80 mile round trip, the cost, etc, etc.

Skip the warranty, but that's just how I roll. These SUV's require so little maintenance, too. Oil & filter every 7-10,000 miles, air filter every 30K, drive for a 100K miles, then change the coolant, plugs and trans fluid. Rinse & repeat. Done.

Hi MikeCallery,

Yes, your Ford extended warranty is valid at any Ford dealership.

Crystal

Ford gave us a Premium Extended Warranty because of all the problems we were having with our 2013 EcoBoost. I hope this tells you folks something, and it's not that Ford is just such a nice company.

If not for the drive train coverage, which is a good enough reason itself IMO, do it for the electronics coverage.

Extend bumper to bumper on 2011 CPO EX Limited?

I am very interested in extending the bumper to bumper warranty to match the powertrain warranty on my 2011 Certified Pre-Owned Explorer Limited. I understand that Ford ESP can be purchased from any dealer online and many offer competitive pricing.

Can anyone explain why the dealer from which I recently purchased the vehicle would offer me a third party warranty coverage "The Mechanic Platinum Plan" rather than the official Ford branded extended warranty coverage? Why would Ford even allow a dealership to sell (or give preferential status to) a non-Ford product? Seems a bit shady to me... Thoughts?

Because the 3rd parties are cheaper for the dealer. They sell them at the same high price which results ina bigger profit. Most dealerships will do what they can to make as much profit as possible. My Ex dealer was the same way as well as my Audi dealer.

All I can say is dont do it. Get one online from Ford.

Also, powertrain is 4yr/50k. Not much of an extension.. i doubt much would happen in that extra year and isnt worth the money in my opinion. You are better off banking that money. I do 20k a year.. Im going with the 125k/6yr. Ill have no repair bills while I have a car payment which is what I like.

I have a 48 month Leasecare ESP on my 2011 Limited right now. Since I may buy the Ex at lease end, I'm thinking of extending it and changing over to the PremiumCare ESP. Unfortunately this has to be done before the 36 month factory warranty is up. If not done within that time frame, I won't get the 'new vehicle' ESP.

Mo money, and mo money, from yo money.

I think you need to move on to a more dependable vehicle.

I'm debating on whether to get one or not... I've had the car 6 months and am over 10,000 miles so at that rate I'll be out of the warranty in another year. I've had quite a few minor issues fixed so I'm not 100% sold on the quality here, especially with all the electronics.

If anyone is looking for a Ford ESP, PM me. I go through a Finance manager who sells them $100 over cost. Flood Ford is the cheapest online and he beats them by $50-$75. You can also finance it at 0% for 18 months for a small fee that Ford charges.

I am in no way affiliated with him.. just a stand up guy. He misquoted me for my F250 by $400 abd he honored it (took a $300 loss). Not sure any other dealer would do that.

We usually buy the warranty and I have had more times that we didn't use it and I regretted it than times I have used it. (Ford and BMW)

In fact, the warranty is just about to expire on my '08 F350 and I had a problem with a component related to the turbo cooler. Sure seems like a warranty part. Even the service writer (best guy in the world) wrote it up as a warranty repair then called the next day and told me it would be $500, not warranty. Not his fault, he did cover the rental (Explorer XLT) for four days that caused us to buy the sport, but long story there.

Anyway, so already kinda regretting buying the $2500 warranty on the F350, but started looking at the PremiumCare plan for her new Sport, and for $1500, I can buy a lot of piece of mind for this tech heavy, new design (Ecoboost 35 in Ex) truck.

It think we're gonna go with the ESP Premiumcare and be done with it. Seven years/100K. Just have a feeling we're gonna use it this time.

I did have a valve cover leak repaired under warranty on the 6.4L diesel and that is not a fun job for a $$$diesel tech$$$. But not quite 2.5K.

Not sure if that helps, but that's my two cents.

Hi Scott. I have had extended warranties on the 3 Highlanders I had and have it on my Explorer. I would have been dollars ahead by not having taken them out. Only used it once for a tire replacement on my '06 Highlander. The thing is you never know when you will need it. It is somewhat like having insurance on anything. You may or may not need it but in my case, I consider it 'peace of mind'.

I agree Peter. And that peace of mind is worth double when it's on my wife's car. I like the thought of her not having to worry about how much an otherwise covered repair would cost, and the rental when her truck is down for some reason.

I don't think I'd pay much more than they are listing it for, but we've discussed it and we'll be doing the Premium care ESP. Even though a few weeks ago I told the service writer they had sold me my last warranty. I wasn't happy my turbo repair wasn't covered on the F350, but the parts that are covered can be pretty specific, and this was not covered. I really appreciate him picking up the rental care though, despite the repair not being covered. That's part of why we bought our fifth truck now, from them. Berge Ford in Mesa, great folks. And so far tru to their word. I just got a window sticker today and I think we're on schedule. They promised 6 weeks, and it looks like it's gonna happen.

Stay warm up there. Only 70 today, but 75 tomorrow, Brrrrr. That's Fahrenheit, for you northerners.
