Ford should be ashamed

Well, It's good to hear from about 2% of the people who have bought this vehicle. You understand that the only reason your on here is because your having problems. They have sold over 60,000 + Explorers. There are bound to be vehicles with minor problems. I had a couple and now they have been fixed. I love the Explorer. Best vehicle I have ever owned now that all is fixed. Remember. Even Lexus and BMW make lemons. There are bound to be some. Bad luck you guys got the lemons. Now go make some lemonade, open your mouths and go to the dealer and DEMAND they fix your vehicle. Good luck and may the force be with you.

My Explorer has also been mostly trouble free. Couple of glitches with the MFT that an upgrade fixed and moisture in the turn signals that will be fixed. Other than that the vehicle has been great.

I got my new Explorer just over a week ago. Just got back from a long trip and I have all the same problems.

The MFT is extremely buggy. There are times when the AC starts to blast and then it locks you out of the controls. I can't get my ipod to play. It shows up with album art, but will not play. The lag time in getting Nav booted up is unbelievable. Can take a full 10 minutes. I get Nav not responding notices and have to reinstall the card all the time. The natural place to rest your hand while you're waiting and waiting for the MFT to respond to your inputs almost always kicks on the hazard lights. My recently found places is always empty. Not helpful. When I have it call in to Sync Services, sometimes you can't hear the voice prompts. You have to hang up and dial in again. There are an astonishing number of bugs and flaws in the system.

I have 2.8 and I can't wait for this "major update" that is coming. I really hope that solves it, because otherwise I think I want my old Lincoln Aviator back that I traded in.

The Explorer is a nice car, but all of this buggy operation is distracting and annoying.

I will say, however, that I don't think I'll ever buy another car WITHOUT adaptive cruise control. That's my single favorite feature in the new Explorer. It's awesome. It will be hard to drive a car without it after using it.

I have to say I enjoy the vehicle but the MFT is worthless. The nav component is a disgrace.

We had the opportunity to drive 800 miles last weekend round trip trying to use the Voice Nav option. It was unable to understand my voice or my wifes voice (she is an phone operator btw) and has impeccable voice quality.

You would say City> Omaha>> or Saint Paul or whatever. It is a joke.

Cancel route would just hang and hang. Hitting the voice prompt just causes it to go directly back into NAV.

Occasionally a small box gets superimposed on the screen.

Honestly I have always had ver 2.8 in this 3 week old vehicle. I can only imagine what previous versions were.

I also can't believe Ford thinks this app is public release ready.

Ford trying to re-invent the wheel again.

Had mine for about 10 days, love it! No issues really at all except a couple non connects to the phone which I can live without anyway...

If I had anything negative to say it would be that MFT is slow at times. I think they need to tweak it but other than some lags here and there all works fine. Used the Nav a few times both by voice and by keying in address and no problems with either.

Off Monday and plan on a nice ride with my wife and our doggie! :D

Have a safe Memorial Day folks!!!

I HATE the MyTouch system. I would love to buy an explorer or an edge but unfortunately I need to get the mytouch to get bluetooth.

You do. Why for. I have MFT and love it. Seems to be some faulty units out there. Imagine that. :D

Just remember that the Sync Nav is working off your cell phone. It is not a fully functioning GPS unit. I knew that when I bought the Explorer. I chose not to order the Ford nav as I didn't like the price, and I didn't want to get stuck with the factory system (Telenav maps seem to suck.)

I'm opting for a Garmin 1350LMT for less than $150. Comes with lifetime map updates and I can put in a route while driving. There is even a nice cutout in the dash to rest a beanbag mount. Much better option.

Wow, somebody had a 95 Expo that wasn't a lemon??? Ha ha ha, it was by far the biggest POS that I ever owned. Fuel problems, ignition problems, and all the parts were 3-4x the price of the same parts for a 96-98. I replaced the 95 with a 98 and never looked back.

As for a new Ford, I just purchased a 2011 Ranger.... because it's still built on the old tried and true Expo / Ranger platform that has been the same truck since 2000. I love the truck, nothing fancy like sync to eff up and give problems. Basic reliable transportation so far. Work on the KISS theory and you will succeed most times.

The dis-heartening thing to hear is how you guys are being treated by the dealership when you do have issues. I would have thought that the North American auto makers would have learned that their poor customer service is a big part of what has lost them market share to the Japanese. I know years ago I bought a new Ranger in the mid 80's and sold it due to poor dealer support regarding paint issues (which later resulted in a successful class action suit). Customers will put up with a certain ammount of trouble if they are looked after and the problems are resolved without cost to them when they are due to poor design or manufacturing.

I am a 'not so happy' owner of a 2011 Limited and I have to admit - I've never been this unhappy with a new vehicle purchase...
The issues you’ve described sound beyond frustrating, and I would like to do everything I can to help and escalate your concerns. I would need your VIN, dealer name, and approximate mileage via private message to do this and I’ll do my best to assist you.

Cory

preach on brother!! unfortunately... all of our outcries and legitmete gripes won't get us any more than some Ford "Customer rep" on here who will respond with a series of hollow apologies and half assed attempts to 'sooth' us jaded new Ford owners. If you're lucky they'll respond w/ a number to customer relations who will sit patiently and listen to your gripes and laugh in the backgroud as they have pocketed our 40 grand! cheers =/
When I reach out to assist, I really do want to help. I’m here to make sure you’re happy with your purchase and I encourage anyone with issues to message me with their Explorer’s information so I can escalate their concern.

Cory

...ALSO, please PM FordCustSrvc - Cory can escalate your issues to Ford Customer Service, which has had some success getting issues resolved.

Thank you, these suggestions are all extremely useful and I appreciate your recommendation to message me so I can escalate any issues you’re experiencing.

I have trouble understanding why some X owners expect MFt and Synch to be active the second the vehicle starts.I don't know of a computer system that is instantly active when you power up.It takes the X system approx. 30 seconds to load when you power up.I wish my pc was as fast. Most cell phones take as long when you power them up.If you are that impatient, than you are not ready to handle this new tech.
Wake your pc up and start trying to run onboard programs, before it is up and running, and see how fast it locks up.
If every minor problem
with a new launch vehicle,is a major catastrophe for you,you need buy three year old technology.

Ford customer service has been great in helping owners put LEGITIMENT problems to bed.The minor issues with my Explorer,A-pillar,moisture in lamps,Updates, have been handled well by Corey and associates.Hats off to them. For those who just like to whine ,about things that don't suit their whims,it is hard for a Customer rep to please them.
Bottom line ,I am very happy with my Explorer and Understand there are some growing pains with a vehicle rebuilt from the ground up.

30 second startup would be a dream. Mine can take ten minutes or more. It locks up constantly. It freezes in the middle of operation. The AC goes full blast for no reason, or shuts of completely with controls unavailable. The nav system locks out mid cycle and won't catch up to where you're going for ten minutes. It reverts AM radio, which I never use, when starting up. It won't play my iPod, even though songs and album art show up.

You're obviously having a different experience.

Mine sucks.

Flat out: people want conveneince. It sounds like an amazing system when everything works, but when it doesnt, all hell breaks loose. My Pioneer headunit takes about 20 seconds to startup before I hear music/anything. Its not convenient for them to have to wait 30 seconds or so. They dont realize it (summed up) is basically a full blown computer system, they want all these features but want it to be like a normal bland car stereo that turns on and is ready in 2 seconds.

You are one with some legitiment problems.PM Corey ,and I know for a fact, you will be helped.A little patience is helpful,Corey is a busy man,but he will get the job done.

Amen to GTMD for bringing this up. This is cutting edge stuff here. I think it is working admirablly and will only get better. Well done Ford.

I'm amazed at how well my explorer and sync work. My Iphone 4 was a mess out of the box. (This is my 3rd IPHONE 4)

I would bet many sync errors can be corrected by people clearing the cache on their iphones and doing a hard reset of the phone. I know my iphone is the root of any errors I've received. Iphone wont sync. go onto iphone and re-connect using its bluetooth screen.

Took my new day old Explorer with MFT 2.8 and nav on a weekend trip (pretty worried because of the problems reported here). Other than issues getting songs to actually play from my iPhone 3GS from when plugged into usb (shows onscreen as playing but no sound) and accidentally hitting the hazards a lot (come on Ford, this didn't show up in testing), it worked great.

I don't know if it is generational thing (like programming the Betamax (VCR) if you remember VCRs), but things seemed to go much smoother because my 13 year old son sat shotgun on the way out and kept correcting me and teaching me what to do as we played with MFT fighting Memorial Day weekend traffic.

By the time we got to our destination, I was a lot less frustrated and more pleased with MFT thanks to my son's guidance (though I still think the user interface and control layout is unsophisticated and not intuitive at all). That being said, except for not being able to get any sound from my iPhone songs for my 3GS in USB mode, MFT worked for me like a charm all weekend. Nav was great (at least as good as my Infiniti's nav) though inputting directions by voice is never as easy as you think it would be (great source of humor for my family but no worse than any other car I test drove or own: that is why touchscreen is good because it makes inputting directions by touch much easier). There was some lag, but it was not too bad or distracting.

The voice controls worked really well (when my son and daughter weren't yelling out alternate commands or radio stations).

The worse thing about MFT from my perspective is distracted driving (looking down at the center console a lot). Hopefully, this will get better as I get used to MFT. Plus, I started using the steering wheel controlled dual LCDs to quickly change climate, radio stations, set NAV using POI or favorite destinations, etc. all with no lag and much less distraction than going to the big touch screen in the center console.

This is a long way of saying as long as your unit is not defective (knock on wood: first gen model/ first gen MFT), I really love everything MFT can do and believe that if you can live with its really cumbersome user interface, you will discover a system that can do more than just about anything else on the road. That is what I was looking for since I saw it at CES in 2010. My son gives it two big thumbs up (no "are we there yet?" refrains from him the entire trip). Even my wife warmed up to it at the end (though she still has not driven it despite many offers to do so).
