Frame Swap 98 Explorer in driveway

I had to swap the frame out on my 98 Eddie Bauer. Tools used to swap the body included four pipe stands, two 4x4x8s, and an engine hoist.

Here are some pictures. Swap only took an hour with help from SVO. The Explorer had no drive train so this made it very simple.

question for you, if your swappin frames why not put the drivetrain in while the bodys off?

Yeah It ended up more work then I wanted it to be. so I put a 98 frame back under the truck.

I felt it was easier because the body would not have to go as high off the frame with the motor in place it would have had to go a few feet higher.

Kris, I found this thread b/c I am thinking through a new project and was looking at a couple of these threads. I was thinking of starting with a 02-03 Sport frame (i.e. fully boxed) and using it for a SAS swap, v8 swap, and sticking a 1st gen 2 door sport body on it.

My concern is how different the body mounts are btw the 2nd gen frames and the early 1st gen bodys. Everything else I can fab up.

honestly you would have a much easier time swapping a 1st gen body on the 2nd gen frame. the problems I ran in to were narrower frame rails on the 1st gen frame, making radiator/condensor mounting problems. The frame mounts are exact from the 1st to 2nd gen except the front two at the core support.

They are welding pipe stands.. Honestly don't know how I got mine. LOL

Wishing I had stands like those when I had the body off of my frame,I only had cinder blocks and boards available to me at that time. Oh well-they worked.
