Front driveshaft removal?? Grrr!!

Hey, guys, ran into a snag, and now I've gotta get it apart... I over-extended my front driveshaft (long story) and now the whole shaft's gotta come out. After 13 years and 192,000 miles, the CV joint has never been out of the cup, and now that I want it to come out, of course, it won't.

I searched for the secrets but didn't find them... Tips/tricks/suggestions? I'm trying to avoid the heat-wrench, but it's looking like I may not have any other choice...

2 X 4 and a hammer did the trick for me. Other than some corrosion, there shouldn't be anything in the way. Make sure you dropped all the bolts all the way around. I find it easier to get out if you have the front section removed at the diff first.

Some have wax from the factory, I can't remember if the explorers do but if they do it is wise to use heat or you'll likely end up with a bent yoke. If it is wax filled you'll see a small nub sticking out that just looks like plastic. If not just use a bench vice with a socket to press it out.

I think I should have been more clear... I'm talking about the CV joint at the transfer case end of the front driveshaft. 98-01s have a CV joint at the t-case that bolts to the front output shaft. The yoke is on the front axle pinion (and that came apart just fine and dandy).

It's been soaking in penetrating oil overnight, and I need a couple of better hammers and punches... Hopefully I can get the parts ordered ASAP.

Git it! It's amazing how much more productive I can be with the right tools at hand. Had to get my big ball-peen hammer and cold chisel from work and she popped right off with no drama.
