Gear shift problems

HI,
New to this forum and need help.
I have a 97 ford explorer 4.0ltr pushrod V6 engine.
Manual transmission.
I am having trouble with the shift indicator. It goes over to Park but then starts to roll backwards like its in Reverse. Have to put the parking brake on everytime I park.:thumbdwn:
I have replaced the entire shift rail,rubber bushings and checked under the steering column for any loose bolts or a broken shift indicator.
Is there a linkage adjustment? If so where and how do I fix this annoying problem!

You mean an automatic transmission right?

I think there is an adjustment to be made on the linkage on your tranny but I'm not sure. I suggest editing the manual tranny statement so more ppl might be willing to look into the thread. Also, Check out the "Anyone here from Florida" thread

there is a linkage adjustment at the trans.

and

there is an indicator adjustment wheel on the column. (under the dash)
