Help - I Jet Washed It!!

Have you listened if you can hear the fuel pump if you turn the key to the ON position?....

Have you done what he mentioned? If you don't hear the fuel pump whine when you turn the key to the on position, then there is a problem in the fuel pump circuit. Most likely not a fuse since you have gotten it to start intermittently. More like a bad fuel pump or bad fuel pump relay.

It sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem of some sort. You could have a fuel pump going out, a VERY dirty fuel filter, a fuel pressure regulator issue..etc.

When you got it running last time, how well does it run? Rough with sooty exhaust?

its running again and had been for the last 30 mins - watch this space!!!

It seem to run Ok last time and this time, where is the fuel filter - if it happens again maybe I will try there first.... the rest sound a bit complicated for someone with my VERY limited mechanical skills!

I'm just off to check it again - I have not tried turning it off and on yet - just left it running...

clean the maf, mine got muddy once and that was the only way it would run. it at least wouldent hurt to try.

Buy MAF cleaner at the parts store, take off your intake, and the part reight behind the air filter is the maf, follow the directions on the can and spray the maf down. I dont think there is a problem with the fuel pump since it is running, but do check the fuel filter and do an oil change. if you by some chance got water in the oil, (water + oil + berrings = DISASTER)

sorry i dont have any advice for you, but youve got a really nice lookin explorer :)

Ok - all was fine, drove it revved up and down - but as soon as I turned it off, no joy - it seems to want to start but no enough fuel - is this likely to be the fuel filter?

check the fuel pressure. Here in the states, some auto parts stores let you borrow (with a deposit) tools like fuel pressure gauges, etc. They're not that expensive anyways.

I would check fuel pressure, and also remove all the plug wires, etc. from your coil pack (make sure you put them back on in the correct spot) and spray them inside/out with starter fluid...starter fluid will dry up any water that could be messing up the spark.

If you are going to change the fuel filter, you will require the 3/8" Ford fuel filter disconnect tool.

All you guys telling him things to do need to remember maybe he doesn't know how to do some of the things you're telling him to do :)

If this is the case, then maybe it needs to go to a shop for repairs.....

IMO he should have done this in the first place if he didnt know. Not to be a jerk. but were helping the best we can, if he cant do it, it needs a shop.

I think maybe you are all getting UKExploder mixed up with me UK Explorer?

I really do appreciate all your help and have been trying most of the things that have been suggested. I still cannot get it to start properly though - so will be taking it in tomorrow..

Its sure did look good dirty. But possible disconnect the battery for a few moments and let it reset. Probably won't work, but always worth a try.

I have tried that as well... I'm thinking It was just a coincidence now, maybe the jet wash had nothing to do with it, after all it did run Ok afterwards - time to take it in me think!

not sure how i did c this b4.
I had a similar problem w/ an 01 Eddie .
I washed the whole engine bay, dried it all off w/ compressed air..went to start it, started and like 3secs later it shut off.
Then the truck wouldn't start, and had very similar things happening to it as urs.
I ended up replacing the fuel filter, and did a full tune up including replacing the coil pack. I strongly belive that water got into the coil pack.
I orginally cleaned the engine bay to do the tune up so it wasn't like i HAD to replace all those parts, but if ur willing to spend that money...i would do the same.
The fuel filter isn't too expensive so i would change it regardless

tottlay offff subject but how much was ur bullbar dude?
