If your windows are up, the chicks can't ask for your number when you're at stoplights :D

And her pimp can't reach in the other door and yank your butt out :D

91 XLT 4 Door 4X4

Starting to trouble shoot the dreaded ABS light. Sounds like I need to start at the speed sensor.

1991 4X4, 4 Door XLT. 200,000 miles. This truck has carried me up and down the west coast and east and west across the US numerous times. Very comfy and pretty reliable.

Things I've changed:
Trany at 150K
Radius Arm bushings
Battery cable and box per recall in 92(ish)
Springs in exterior door handles (keeps them from flopping)
Three sets of tires
Heads (cracked on Wife in 93 while I was in Okinawa Japan)
5 radiators (expain that. I just put another radiator in, in May. Just sprung a leak and is under warrantee)
A/C pump and plumbing
Brakes (twice)
Fan blade is cracked
Both rear window regulators
Left front axle
ABS module (about $800.00)

Where did you get your radiators and for how much, mine is starting to leak in a couple of places, but only when it is running cold.

Radiator info.

The radiator I bought in May was from a local outfit. Whatcom Radiator. I paid $170.00.

The previous was from Richland’s radiator in Richland’s North Carolina. $130.00

Prior to that was from Vern Sims Ford in Sedro Wolly Washington. $??.??

Prior to that was from a dealer in Springfield Virginia and was replaced after my wife smashed up the front end.

I will get a replacement from Whatcom Radiator for this latest failed radiator. I don't know what is happening to these things. I keep the fluid clean and serviced. Weird.

Good O'l Sedro Wolley

Good O'l sedro Wolley, Washington. My spelling may be off though.

93 185000, the only thing i know of is the a4ld, just getting it back from the shop, after a rebuild.
i have only put about 5000 miles on it, since i got it.
other than that, just maintainence.

Hi Everyone. I've got a '94 XLT 4 door 4X4 I've had since new. 119,000 miles. 4.0 OHV engine - A4LD Tranny

I've replaced:
Front Brakes (Three times)
Front Brake hoses
Rear Brakes
Front Ball Joints
Front Axle U-Joints
Front Hubs
Fuel Pump (worked but top was rusted out - truck smelled like gasoline from 20 feet away)
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump Relay
Air Filter (went to Amsoil foam filter)
Thermostat
Serpentine Belt (twice)
All the coolant hoses
Intake Manifold gaskets (coolant leak where the right head-lower manifold-block come together behind the alternator)
Tires - went to Dunlop Radial Rovers, so far have had good luck with them.
Flange that holds exhaust system to catalytic converter - the rest has survived so far in the Rochester winters (except both hangers which were replaced this past summer)
Serpentine Belt Tensioner
Differential Pressure Sensor for EGR system
MAF sensor

On the list of things to do:
New driver's door inside door pull (mine broke)
New driver's door outside handle (broken spring)
Lots of paint & touch up work.

Be safe out there.

John in Rochester NY

Final update on my 91 XLT:

Original motor and Tranny still were going strong at 156,000 with no MAJOR problems, normal maintanence, rear end was rebuilt around 100k and the rear main seal and oil pan seal was done at about 130k.

Got in an accident earlier this week and the insurance company will probably total it out, dont know for sure yet, if they do Ill probably be getting another Explorer cuz I loved this one so much.

Thanks
-Matt

'91 XLT 4X4 4Dr auto w/155,000

--Ball joints
--radiator, heater core, water pump
--starter
These were all done this year and a lower intake gasket change will now be a lifter change (meaning all of them, ofcoarse) within a couple of weeks.

Besides the recent lifter noise I've had no major engine or trans. problems. My X is almost completely
stock and spends most of the warmer months at a mountain cabin.

'94 XLT 4WD, 4.0 automatic OD. 265K miles, nearly all driven by me. Other than normal maintenance like tune-ups, oil changes, belts, tires, brakes, and hoses I've replaced the battery, muffler, alternator, thermostat, and starter. Original starter lasted until last week! Radiator was replaced under warranty. I figure if it completely disintegrates in the driveway I'm still ahead!

high mileage

I have a 91 XLT with 126,000 miles on it. The only major thing I have done is recently the left hub went, and I had to have universals done. Cost was around $1100.00. I have replaced the muffler, and brake pads, and a modulator. I faithfully have the oil chaged every 3 moths, and weekly check all of my fluids. Other than normal wear and tear, nothing major. As long as you take care of your truck, your truck will take care of you. Remember to have the bearings greased with litium grease every 4 months or so!!!
