Hill Start Assist Failure

It's bandaid because they only had to do this to solve the issue of a single rear differential bolt breaking, making it possible for the vehicle to roll away when placed in park. Had they kept the 2 bolt subframe, there would be no "fix". At least that's my take on the situation.
I realize that but am then left wondering why they are not addressing the bolt issue with new vehicle orders?

Cost? Supply chain issues?

What other reason would have them eliminate a differential locating bolt on performance models?

Something a bit different tonight happened.
Started going around 25mph and the gears in the transmission started to grind. The “D” on the round shifter started to blink and on the dash it said to put it in park. Not sure if it was trying to put itself in park or what, but it was grinding the gears pretty bad. Hill assist not available flashed on the dash as well. Car stayed running, no rough idle.
Once we stopped and put it in park all was well.

That is odd. Perhaps the parking pawl in the transmission did try to engage. That would most likely sound like a fast ratcheting sound.

Ford tech went through the explorer and found transmission damage. They’re ordering parts and said the explorer will be in the garage for a few days while they make the repairs. If this doesn’t fix the issues then most likely it will become a lemon is what we were told. I’m convinced after they fix the damage it will happen again since so many weird things have been going on with it. It’s like it has a mind of its own. I personally think the computer is faulty.

Mine had it twice now and each time I end up with a bent, vibrating driveshaft.

Our 2020 explorer with 42k miles is doing this exact same thing, also "Service Advancetrack", local dealer booked until October. Wife said she was at a stop light when it all went haywire, these lights are still on, it is not intermittent. We are still driving it, does not appear to be causing damage. I bought a OBD reader, U0102 - loast comms with transfer case control module. U011D, lost comms with all wheel drive module, U0146 lost comms with Gateway A. Its over my head now but seems CAN bus connector, harness, or wires got disconnected or cut. Ill report back with dealer explanation.

Mine is doing same thing with3,200 miles. Dash lights up ratcheting noise from the front. When i stop put in park back to drive its fine. Ive had collision assist go off with nothing in front on me,
Gas gauge go to e with miles to e reading zero with half tank. Engine light just popped yesterday internal engine off timer concern. All since recall for parking brake. Going back in monday they can keep it till fixed or replace it as far as im concerned.

Sounds just like ours. They ordered new transmission parts for ours. They can go ahead and replace all they want it’s more than likely going to happen again. I’m convinced the computer is junk.

Please report back when/if they get it resolved. Thanks.

Found more codes U0100 - lost comms with ECM/PCM, U0429 - invalid data received from steering control module, U0418m - invalid data recieved from brake system controller.
This thing is really F-ed up, I am surprised that we can still drive it.

We have a 2020 model with 35,000 on it and it's done this to us 4 times in the last month. It's even shifted itself into park while the vehicle was moving at low speeds twice. When this happens, the car dies and the trans parking pin is grinding like crazy. The Hill Start assist lights flash and come on the DIC. The car will restart when the button is pushed but the engine hesitates and sputters for a short while afterwards. Once it's cleared up, the vehicle will run fine again. We've had it into the dealership three times in the last three weeks and they tell us they reflash the module and since it doesn't replicate the issue, they think they have it fixed.

It's back in the shop again for the same issue since it just happened again the other night. I have noticed that since the dealership reprogramed the computer to activate the parking brake everytime it's in park or a door is opened, is when all of this started. Before that programing, the issue was non existant.

I'mhoping FORD comes out with something soon because I can only imagine what this is doing to the inside of the trans and how long will it take for major issues to show up after it's out of warranty?
Exact same problem with 2020 Explorer only after Ford recall for drive shaft bolt that could boff. And cause car to roll, so computer reset so parking brake comes on whenever car is shut ofg.

What was the outcome. My dealer cand find the problem.

Any outcome yet. Mines in the shop haven't heard yet just wondering.

We’re looking at trading it in at this point. We’re done dealing with it and we feel like it’s pretty unsafe. Transmission continues to grind. Just yesterday it decided to start counting down the miles till empty really quickly and then all of a sudden started to count back up. It’s always something new.

We got ours back last week after the valving in the transmissionw as rebuilt. All was good until last night. The car was sitting on our driveway and my wife went to leave. She started it up, put in reverse and it died. This happened 5 times before it stayed running. When it finally did stay running, the engine ran extremely rough and all kinds of lights were flashing on the dash. The hill start assist warning came back on at each start up. This morning when she went to the gym, she backe dout opf our garage and it made a god awful grinding noise but the engine stayed running this time. She stopped, put in park and then back to reverse and it was fine. She came home, got ready for work and went to leave and it violently threw itself in park. She said it felt like she hit something. She shut it off and put it in reverse again and all was good for about another 5 minutes. When traveling down the road at 35 MPH, it started grinding very loudly again. This time I was on the phone with her and heard it. It sounded like the parking pawl was trying to engage.

On top of these issues, I noticed every one of our tires are chewing themselves up on the inside and outside tread. The pressure is set at 35PSI in every tire and the dealer checked everything over last week.

We just rolled 36,100 miles on it so FORD better step up and cover all this under the factory warranty.

The dealer has been notified and I am waiting a call back now. EVERY single one of these issues started with the computer reflash engaging the parking brake when in park. I am almost to the point of trading it in because we can't continually be without a car for FORD's junk software issues. This is my second Ford and will probably be my last as the first on was in the sho 13 times in a year for electrical issues and now this one for this. When they both are in the shop more than we can drive them, it leaves me to belive FORD is an inferior product.

Same issue with mine. 2 dealers can't fix the problem that started with their safety recall to put imparting brake on. Dealers say to blow up Fords help app and keep on 'em until they have a fix!

PM sent to please add the model year to your profile. Thank you.

They replaced a data module. It happened to the tech several times. Replaced a gateway module and test drove 28 miles no issues. I picked it up and actually ran better than when I dropped it off. Time will tell. I posted the work order here.
