Hoods & Scoops from Explorer Express

I believe the 2001 Sport and Sport Tracs may be different when it comes to installing the Mustang GT hood scoop. The owner from the Sport Trac site described it as labor intensive.

By the way, there is a good chance someone on this site would buy your hood!

Nick, do you have our sway bars yet? Your handling is not complete untill you do.

Whats up guys, I installed the mustang gt scoop without any modifications to my hood or the scoop , EXCept the honey comb chrome insert i installed in the scoop insert had to be cut down about an inch to fit. Other then that it worked out quite well , i had it fiberglassed in and it worked out beautifully check out my site for pics

Nick

Did you make it functional? I have the same scoop in my garage. I cut it the same as you across the honeycombs, and drilled them out. Just haven't decided how to cut the hood yet to make it functional. The braces run right across where the scoops needs to go, and I really don't want to cut/loose the braces. I was thinking of drilling 1.5"-3" holes around the braces to allow for air, and the round holes would keep the hood from cracking in the corners of the cuts - just haven't taken the time to do it yet. Any ideas from yours?

my hood

I would pay for 450 for that hood in a second. Just need to find a buyer for mine first.

John V- I do not have the sway bars yet , but I am probably going to get them sometime this year.

Cobra - I know exactly what your saying about the hood supports and cutting, what I was going to do to make it functional was modify an LS1 camaro airbox to fit right into the throttle boddy and then mold it into the hood scoop opening.....other then that i'm stumped i dont want make the hood weak.....

The camaro airbox doesnt sound like a bad idea, but I don't have the room under the hood between the hood and the Eaton to get anything there. I am trying to use the scoop more for getting more air into the engine compartment to help reduce some of the heat. Between the Eaton and the headers, its getting a little hot in there...

I think I am going to go with the hole idea to start off with. Drill them on each side of the braces so the air will come through the scoop, then down across the Eaton and down each side and out the bottom. Create basically a vaccum to pull air in and push it out the bottom - hopefully taking some of the heat with it. Sounds good in theory anyway... :D

John i'm interested in getting a rear swaybar for my 98-00 explorer but which does the bar come with: poly bushings or the split collets? On the site one description says w/ bushings and one says with collets. Which is it?

John, also not to get off topic, but would a front sway bar from a 98-00 explorer fit my 95 sport?

Our ZD5622 ($179.95) X-Spec Rear Sway Bar comes with the split collets and the poly bushings.

The front sway bar from a 1998 mounts differently than a 1995-1997 at the links. It will not work, sorry.

Maybe a group buy on the sway bars might interest folks?

John V.... are you going to offer rear sway bar end link poly bushings?

Thanks

John, I might be interested in a SwayBar Group buy.

me too! me too!

We do have the standard Energy Suspension poly bushing kit (4.5153G $17.95) for the rear sway bar. This includes the links and the mounting bushings (stock size). If you buy our sway bar it comes with the mounting bushing. The link bushings must be pressed out.

But are replacement poly bushings available?

The Energy Suspension Kit is a replacement bushing set.

Sorry I got caught up with sway bar talk! We do not have our body products in kit form. We could put a package together for a special price. There are not many new body parts out there, with the exception of the new cowl hood. What we have done complete vehicles at our shop with the complete Explorer X treatment:

X-Spec Grill
X-Spec Air Dam
Cordboard Color-Match Side Steps/Ground Effects
Color match front and rear bumpers

Optional:
color match front deflector
color match rear deflector
color match mirrors
color match tailight covers
flush mount bumper lights (back-up lights)

I know it sounds crazy to paint the chrome bumpers, but it does work. Our body shop uses an etching primer before painting color. When this is done properly it holds up good and looks great. I guess the point is, the key to a "body kit" is adding color to the bumpers. There are no bumper covers available for 95-01. We have variations for customers: painted grill gards and safari bars to match color of car. Go to our web site and check out road test/press reviews. The green and blue Explorer X vehicles started out life as XLT'S with chrome bumpers. What a transformation! Let me know if you have any questions.
