how long is too long?

I was given a 1994 ford explorer xlt 4x4 with 367k on it but it dosent show. The only problen I am having as far as rust/rot is the rear shackles. (Witch is very odd because in NJ anything older than 97, you need a tetnous shot to even get close to it)... anyway Im a mild fabricator so I figured I would make a set. This brings me to my question, how long is too long? The stock ones measure about 6 inches from bolt to bolt. I also want a lil lift out of them so I was thinkin like 9-10 inches bolt to bolt. Any and all help would be appreciated thanks ...Joe

thanks ... i have loads of scrap metal laying around and i got to thinkin...so im gunna be different and make a newstyle shackle one side 2x2 square tubing and the other flat plate. ill try to get pics.

Those Warrior shackles are 2.5" longer bolt to bolt and it get's 1.25" of lift. I don't think you'll want them much longer than that either.

these are the ones i made...i went just a tad over the 2 1/5, not quite 3 though...
