okay ppl so i've be on vacation for quite some time i left the X with my sister and aparently she couldn't care for it like i did. something i will never do again if i get it working. Here's my problem, the X wont start it tries to turn over but doesnt. my brother in-law which knows a little something here and there says that my car didnt have any antifreeze and that the water pump might have gone bad. i would go ahead and do it myself if it is the problem. unless theres someone that can guide me to some steps or maybe even tell me thats not whats wrong with it. Is that a job for a DIY type of person? or will i have to give a mechanic a shopping spree certificate?

Does the engine crank (turn over) but just doesn't start? This would mean that it isn't getting either spark or fuel. Listen for the fuel pump to run for about 2 seconds when you first turn the key.

Does "no antifreeze" mean empty, or filled with water which has now frozen solid?

Bob.

need more info ... with what you said the water pump won't keep it from starting... unless truck is frozen solid then your probably looking for a whole new motor...

if it ran out of water and she over heated she may have crystalized the rings (new motor)

if it trying to turn over but not quick enough first test the battery and battery conections to make sure it didn't go dead...

more info will help us to help you:salute:

its turning but its not starting. the battery is okay everything is powered doors lock and unlock when pressed. so its not because of discharge. as for listening for the fuel pump i wouldnt be able to tell how it even sounds. and he told me it had no antifreeze it didnt have water in it i always took it to jiffy lube for an oil change they did a flush about a year ago and since then every 3mths i went for an oil change they would fill it with antifreeze if it needed it.

The fuel pump is a little hum or buzz that you will hear coming from the gas tank....just click the kry forward and listen up...yll hear it if it is working...

Sometimes the battery can have enough juice to work certain things but not enough to start the vehicle.

okay bang she said she was driving on the highway on her way to work and it turn off on her it didnt want to turn back on so she called a tow truck and its been sittin in front of my house since then. she then had my bro-in-law check it and he said thats what might be the problem.

okay just came back from the horrible cold weather out here. it turns,(Cranks) doesnt turn on though, and when i turn the key to just the on pos.. it buzzes for a good 1-3 secs so it must be working.

Sounds to me like fuel pump I just had that happen to me and it was the pump !!!!

well just make sure that this is what it is before you do this....

thats why im asking to see if there are any other reason as to why my X wouldnt start i just replaced both the starter and alternator back in the summer time. Say the car didnt have antifreeze could it get messed up like that?

turn off meaning it quit running? was it hot ? if it quit running and had no antifreeze I would borrow a comprision tester and check compression,,,

here two way to see if it fuel related...(listed them backwards)
'1) find the schrader valve (looks like a valve stem) take the valve core out turn key on and see if it shoots gas out if so not a fuel problem

2) if you cant find it take the plastic off that comes from the battery and goes to the alimumin plenum squrt some gas down it crank over if it hits then go to #1

they way it sound she got it so hot it quit running... you may get lucky and the fuel pump wentout.... keep us informed:D
