Amsoil can bite me too. I use power steering fluid in all power steering pumps.

x2 on that....Why would Amsoil make PS fluid then say to use their ATF.

Because for liability no business would ever recommend anything but the same OEM product. I have four bottles of Amsoil PS fluid ready to go in my trucks the next time I R&R the fluid.

Discussing power steering fluid is like discussing domestic car brands - each person will have their own opinion, and an example of when brand A failed over XX miles.

I know its been said that Ford recommends ATF - but the power steering system is a simple hydraulic system, unlike an automatic transmission with clutches. I've ran the GM mineral oil - based fluid through the stock SOHC pump and another TC-style pump modified to run at over 2,000 PSI, and it worked just fine - as I'm sure any other non-corrosive fluid with some lubricating properties would.

So run whatever you feel like through the power steering system. If you like to stick with what Ford recommends, then go with ATF. If you like something else, then go with that.

Bingo, but if you notice when I post about it, I get miffed when people mindlessly follow a book. They use no common sense, they act like a five year old child who still needs instruction to go to the bathroom. I use logic, and that makes sense, believing in a book or manual just because it's written down is stupid. Use your own mind and think for yourself. Don't accept anything just because some unknown person put it in a book. Regards,
