installed Hid's in the x today....

While I'll skip over the lecture on why you should never put HIDs into stock reflectors (you can find it here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2804748&posted=1#post2804748) I would really REALLY recommend thinking twice about 55w HIDs in the fog lights, they are really small and the amount of heat that that bulb will be putting out, combined with the UV its putting out, might make your chrome bubble up.

Anyway, next time consider a retrofit, not only will it look better and preform better, you won't be blinding your fellow night drivers.

See some of my posts around the forum for my '07 sport trac with retrofited projectors.

Kudos for retrofitting, I simply haven't had time/gotten around to it. Eventually I will but for now i aimed them down a bit to not bother oncoming drivers, and since day one I have never been flashed. Also I been running 55w for about a year now and no bubbles in my Chrome, I think I'm safe by now.

I just recently purchased an '10 EB explorer for the wife and am wanting to get some HID's for it. I have them in my 97 F150 hi/low plus fogs. Mine in myy truck every time you turn them on it causes static in my radio, to the point where you cant hear any music, thankfully i have a usb hook up for my iphone in my head unit so i can use it and have music. Does anybody with HID's in their explorers have this static problem, and if so what can be done to fix it?
Thanks

My hids from retro-solutions

I just installed hi/lo hids on my 2006 ex. It went in perfect no light out on dash or pulsing on high beams. It was all plug and play. Check out my posting for pics of the beam and install pics. You don't need projectors for a 2006+ ex.

They look clean I got the 4300k.

The only other option outside of running resistors for the high and low beam would be to run the direct plug in bi xenon HID's. I work for and run an HID shop here in Georgia so i'm quite well vested in the solutions. I myself have a 2008 Trac that i've had for a few months and it took me a bit to figure out the problem mainly because my dad has the same bulb size in the top of the line expedition and I did a 55 watt kit in his truck hi/low and got absolutely no error codes. I've got an aftermarket conversion in my 2006 Acura TL with 55 watt ballast on D2 bulbs since the stock system died.

The before mentioned solutions are the only two I've found that worked. Some customers mentioned removing fuses but I have to remind them that the sensors dont work like DRL's, you cant just pull a fuse and fix the issue.

where did you bought your hid kit for headlight and fog lights?? also where did you bought the resistors, for you explorer???

Look up ddmtuning.com they have everything you need h13 bulb size and 6 ohm 50 watt rist.

Its the type of ballast. Its running on DC current and 95% of company's that sell HID kits have DC kits without the frequency filter versus AC style kits whose better build quality doesn't require a filter because it doesn't interfere with the vehicles electronics. Essentially run a better kit. We sell DC kits with the built in filter and AC kits as well. There are many sources online that sell them and it isnt my place to say who sells what and how good it is. Over time I have found out the supposedly "excellent" kits sold for hundreds of dollars turn out to be just rebranded versions of cheaper kits. I get a lot of kits from all kinds of sites at our shop with issue after issue or kits sold missing parts. Check us out, more info is on the site, dynamicsoundatl.com

Shots of my HID setup, 6000K Bi-Xenon Headlights, 3000K Foglights, both are 55W AC kits. My lights have been re-aimed properly and I have never been flashed by an oncoming car. Lights have been in my truck for a year now, no problems. I also have had the same kit in my 2001 Explorer Sport 55W headlights and foglights since 2007 with no problems.

The only time i was every flashed in my 2001 Sport was when a shop working on my steering rack somehow broke the adjuster on my foglight and I didnt notice until that night how high it was pointing up.
