I can't tell what kit that is and one of the axle pivot brackets seems to by lying flat, so I'm assuming its the right part.

It appears to have both Axle pivot drop brackets, and both RA drop brackets, front springs and shocks.. The rest of it you can't use...

That looks like a Ranger kit since it has blocks. On an Explorer you need new springs for a 4" lift in the rear. You can sometimes get 4" with AAL and shackles, but it depends on your rear springs. Remember, the Explorer has the spring "under" the axle, so putting blocks between it and the axle won't do any lifting.

EDIT: I almost forgot.. your going to need brake lines which I don't see in the pic.

...and radius arms to go with those brackets...

That drop plate for the driver side beam brings the suck, but it looks like everything is there for a front lift.

As it was already said, you'll have to get new springs for the rear as well as extended brake lines.

Oh, and a dropped pitman arm for your steering.

That should about cover it.

with this kit i could run a soa, or would that give me to much rake? I think a soa is like 5.5 right?

? I thought that SOA would do 5.5 minimum? And the driver side axle drop bracket does bring the suck. It WILL punch a hole in your pumpkin, trust me.

The all important question: What do you want out of your explorer? Including lift height, performance/flex, where you take it, what tires you want on it. That will tell you whether or not that kit is a good fit for your application. For me, I wouldn't grab that one, as I think that your $300 bucks could be better spent elsewhere.

SOA AFAIK is always at least 5", usually 5.5 or 6". It partially depends on your spring perches (how tall they are).

Here is a good thread about doing a cheap SOA. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46236&highlight=soa

One thing to watch for with SOA is axle wrap. Its easier to get with an SOA. If you have, or use soft/worn/old springs to try to cut down on the lift you get out of the SOA you will end up getting axle wrap much easier.

Well, depending on axle perches-the tube itself is only 3 1/2" diameter.

My SOA netted (approx) 4.5" and I needed 2" more to match the front 6" lift. This was my experience.

I can afford the 4'' leaf-springs so I guess its not a big deal. Witch produces more flex spring under or spring over?

if your looking for flex, dont buy that lift, that drop plate for the one side will surely break your front diff when flexing, if you are lifting just for looks (mall crawler) then its fine

That was my thinking.. I can't remember how tall the perches are.. "Assuming" the factory one is 1" going from SUA to SOA would get 5.5 of lift..

1" upwards from the lower spring perch to the tube, 3.5" from the thickness of the tube and 1" more for the spring perch on top of the axle tube..

I've heard of people cutting square tubing and using that as the spring perch to get the spring close to the top of the tube.

I like the price of this kit, so could some one elaborate a little more on this pumpkin breakage?

I can't find the threads with the pics, BUT....

Basically, the drop bracket used on the driver side of the vehicle to lower the axle pivot is built so that when the differential comes up it can hit the drop bracket. This puts a hole in the top of the differential. If you use bump stops and set them correctly you can stop it from hitting, but your doing so by limiting your suspension travel.

In theory any drop bracket on the left side would do the same thing.

Rough country is the only lift kit with that design flaw that I know of.

Its driving me nuts that I can't find the threads.. I know there are a few, one even had a picture showing why the rough country kit hits the diff. IIRC, someone cut/ground the bracket some to make it not hit.
