It's getting dull in here. So---

I Think a Pinks truck would be a great idea.

take a 98-01 V8 2wd and just build the crap out of it. Maybe even make it show car worthy.... stick some names on the side and give the site more exposure. It doesn't even neccessarily have to JUST race on pinks.

Didn't forget. Just didn't want to spend too much time listing all supporting mods needed to run the setup. I have found, as I know you are well aware of, that the more technical jargon I throw out there the more I tend to confuse and overwhelm people. I am trying to keep things simpler. :D

Yep. I like a turbo with higher CR and mid range boost depending on how built the engine is. For a positive displacement supercharger I like low CR and high boost with an efficient intercooler and heat exchanger.

The plot thickens...

So if going with a built engine what is the ideal compression and boost then?

It depends on what you want to do with it, and what kind of power you want to make, and what you want to spend on parts for the engine.
Hell you can run boost on a high compression engine and make tons of power and not blow it up if its built right. People with limited knowledge about turbos and superchargers and engines are the ones that think 8:1 9:1 is all you can run.
Dome pistions + Boost = tons of power

I've got a 9.65:1 compression 347 being assembled, this will be my first which I didn't build. I'm getting lazy, I figured the few hundred dollars was well spent.

I'm planning to at least enjoy a decent NA engine, and if I get to the Kenne Bell, that's gravy. I'll have to keep the boost down for this compression though. He(the cam builder) said I'd have a hard time not making 550hp if I did use turbos with it in my LSC. I hope the 3700rpm torque peak isn't too high. I wasn't planning for the big rpm shift point.

Next,

Well like i mentioned before this Sport trac would most likely still be daily driver. I would hope to make something like more than 400hp at the wheels. Considering that the engine would be built and boosted i don't think that is too high of a number, maybe i'm slightly off with that conclusion though.

Budget for the block and heads would have to be less than 5k.

I had discussed this before, that is, a possible v8 swap into my Trac. I had come to the conclusion that when it's all said and done the turbo v6 would be the overall better choice.

I may have come to this conclusion too early. After looking at the numbers and potential issues again, it looks like i could swap and build the V8 and it's transmission for the same money and/or less hassle than it would be to build a V6 and swap in the 5r55s.

That's a wise decision. You could put a lot into a V6 and trans to get the big power, but it likely would be nearer to the edge than a V8 combination.

I still don't see why we can't get a decent rebuilt 5r55e? I'm still unsure about this. Can you guys tell me more about what makes them weak, and why I would need to go with a 5r55s?

CDW6212R,

If you're willing, would you divulge the info on your built 302(347), cost and components?

And what HP you think you'll be getting from the build?

I'd like to know as well; Want to stroke the X in mid 09 and want to know how much I'd have to dump into it

Ford Strokers is so covered up with work that they are rethinking their price structure. I got their base $1900 short block, added $450 for better rods and pistons, Canfield heads for $1350, custom cam from Jay, Crane gold rockers, Rhoads lifters, torrington bearing timing set, upgraded valve springs and valves... It will be over $4000 in the end. I am trying to see about porting the stock lower GT40 intake, and get Jon to powdercoat the intakes.

I am also rebuilding a 99 trans, and other parts that need to be done for high mileage etc. This 347 should be near 350hp, maybe 300 at the wheels with a proper exhaust. Be careful about planning to reach a power level. My 347 will be a stock block engine, these blocks cannot take much beyond 450hp. I hope to keep it mild, build a better block 9:1 347 later, swapping this into my LSC with mild turbos.

Don't think that any of it is cheap, I'll have much more invested than the truck is worth now. This is a keeper vehicle for me, I'll put another 200,000 miles on it. Regards,

yeah that's way too much $$$ For me.... guess I'll just do as much as I can to the 302, perhaps turbo or SC it.

Please guys
whatever you do-the most important step that I and others miss, is the tuning.

Be sure to allow about $600- $1,000 for this. If you don't, all your work is wasted time.
In fact-tuning may give you all the oomph and fun you need.

Here's something that's off topic, but thought I'd share (this seems to be the right thread since it jumps around)

I recently took notice of my trucks gas milage, or lack there of. I found my truck gets about 11mpg with half highway driving, half in town.

Yesterday, I put 400 miles on my girlfriend's '05 Corrolla "S" and I recorded the mpg. I got 37mpg with highway driving at an average of 65-70mph.

Her car gets more than 3X the gas milage I get!!! What really threw me for a loop is when I thought of how much gas I would have used if I had taken the truck. The math (36ish gallons @ $3.55ish/gallon) shows that I would have spent about $129 on gas alone!

Just thought I'd share :D

Yo, this aint no economy forum --:p:

:D

Jon, I look forward to this summer when I will get my tuning taken care of. I can tell that my engine just isn't running as well as it could. It isn't as efficient as it could be.

There is definitely some more torque and hp left to squeeze out of my combo.

Eric, all I can say is you wouldn't believe the difference until you experience it.

How does chirping the tires while leaving in 2nd gear sound?

yeah-no kidding.:D

Now my truck behaves as if the road is wet in first gear. One little throttle blip in a turn will have you facing the wrong direction like --snap---that
