Jakee's 4.0 SOHC Build up discussion and motivation thread

Jakee, what is the next step in your build up?

Well, Looks like I spoke to soon. I got a CEL today. Took it three days to throw the code but it looks like I have three options; Get tuned next, add a hi-flow cat and just extend the rear O2 sensor after the cat. (I can use the bung I just welded in for a wideband) Or don't drive it too much.

The next step was the electric fan, pulleys, coil...ect. I wanted the tune to be last cuss I know that's going to be one of the best power adders I do.

Another thing. You've guys have heard that I plan to go force feed right? First I was going the M90 supercharger route, then changed my mind and was leaning towards the STS turbo route....Well, I've changed again for the M90. Reason why is I already started planning on making a charger adaptor. I gave up on it but I got a break thru yesterday. My dad has opened a side business fabricating trailers. Also, he's been doing all my welding. I showed him what I needed and he agreed to make the adaptor, said it would be no big deal at all. I asked him to come up with a price for the ADAPTOR only for now. I will have him build a few of these ONLY if anyone else is interested in going this route. If not, I'll just get mine built but we could get them cheap if he built in a lot of say 3 - 5. I'm not looking at making any money here but my Dad can't do this for free. Anyone interested? Should here from him soon about the price. This will be built from STEEL, not aluminum! aluminum would be better but he's not set-up to weld that correctly. Going this route should make for a very awesome street truck. Now a turbo would be better if I was trying to be the fastest, or the king of HP, but I'm not. 13 second 1/4 time for me would be just right for my project.

So let me know if you're interested. Ofcourse I'll need more than just the adaptor, but Like I said, my dad will be building all my stuff so It won't be a problem for him to build multiple qty's.

You make the adapters, and I'll buy the first one.

By tune, are you meaning a dyno tune?

James will tune me on the street first to get us close. After that, I'll go to the dyno to see where I'm at AND a baseline for the force feed step.

Really? But what do you plan on doing with it? I assume you have a 4.0 SOHC somewhere?

Aldive - You need a supercharger man. That would be one of your next steps to better gas mileage!

Why don't you have James make a computer tune file for you now. You can always change tunes ( I have tried over 50 different tunes so far ).

I dont have a 4.0, but I'd buy one anyway- just to make sure they were actually made for the people that need them.

Speaking of dyno tuning, I have an idea to find out exactly what headers will do as well as a baseline for my force feed project coming up. I don't want to say much more cuss I don't want to let anyone down.

On the charger manifold. I'll have 1 built JUST TO MAKE SURE THE THING WORKS first. I would hate to give out something made that wasn't even tested first.

Okay - Going on vacation for a week starting tomorrow. When I return my plans are to be done with this crap by the end of FEB next year.

1.Add a high flow cat--------By NOV 30
2.Add a E-Fan---------------By DEC 14
3.Add under drive pulley's-----BY DEC 28
4.Coil------------------------BY JAN 11
5.Dyno tune and produce some numbers!----BY JAN 25---1st chart
6.Add headers------------------------------BY FEB 8
7.Dyno tune and produce some numbers!-----BY END OF FEB--2nd chart--Hopefully a baseline for the next step.

Now, hold me to these dates. If I don't have something done by the dates I've listed then either something major happened or my wife thru a fit.

Jakee, PM me the idea you have for the headers if you don't mind; need some ideas for Xmas gifts :D I just added the Screamin Demon coil, and the raspiness on the high end is gone, and it pulls all the way up to the shift. Dollar for dollar one of the better mods I've done. I should have one more cat removed pretty soon, so I'll be running straight out through just the last cat. Hopefully dyno tuning is coming in less than 2 weeks :D

Auto1st - I'll PM U the details the week after thanksgiving. I'm currently in PA on vacation. Keep up the good work. I thought I would catch u soon but it looks like you've put a whooping on me as far as the mods are going. I believe you're going to be the first to take down that negitive SPINDLECONE! Good luck!

It's funny how the mods that some say suck are somes best mods. Just goes to show you that you can't make a judgement off ONE experience as every vehicle is different in their own unique way!

Added the E-Fan last night!

Just want to say...

This thing is really starting to come alive. In other words I'm feeling pretty good about what I've accomplished thus far. I can honestly say that I can NOT time the 0-60 anymore the way it is because of how fast the needle is moving. So, with that being said, I'm ALMOST ready for the dyno tuning. Just need to add the coil and it's time. Like I said, I'll be doing headers and I'll probably go with the Gibson brand.

As far as headers, this is what I've been told. For the 4.0 SOHC stay with 1-5/8" Primarys and go with shortys for a stock engine. The reason why I think I'm going to gain alot is simply because I DO NOT have cats. This makes a difference. Again, I do not suggest not running cats. I DO NOT drive my X everyday and so....However, I will be adding a hi-flow cat but I think I'm going to move that to the very end, after I make the numbers I set out to make.
