Jakee's 4.0 SOHC Build up discussion and motivation thread

Okay - Going on vacation for a week starting tomorrow. When I return my plans are to be done with this crap by the end of FEB next year.

1.Add a high flow cat--------By NOV 30
2.Add a E-Fan---------------By DEC 14
3.Add under drive pulley's-----BY DEC 28
4.Coil------------------------BY JAN 11
5.Dyno tune and produce some numbers!----BY JAN 25---1st chart
6.Add headers------------------------------BY FEB 8
7.Dyno tune and produce some numbers!-----BY END OF FEB--2nd chart--Hopefully a baseline for the next step.

Now, hold me to these dates. If I don't have something done by the dates I've listed then either something major happened or my wife thru a fit.

Okay, Step 2 Is done. Step 3 will be done around DEC 8. I'm skipping the high flow cat for now...

Just might be done sooner than I thought. Starting to get a little cooperation from the other half...

Oh really?
I need her to talk to my other half--

Jakee, are you just going with the crank pulley or doing the water pump also?

I was going to ask you your opinion on the water pump pulley? Also, I'm wondering if I need the ALT pulley now that I have the E-fan? Maybe it would help out (Although I have no problems)?

Also, I have to comment on how the flex-a-lite 180 is a very quality pc. Also, I really don't think it's all that loud. I've heard other fans that sounded like a siren (Yeah, it was made in china)

Anyways, the fan is great and I love the way it fits. Almost like it was made for the X.

Well, I can suggest buying her something. Hell, I bought mine a new car, drove 2500 miles round trip from TX to PA to spend thanksgiving with her family, bought her a new cell phone, give her back rubs everynite...ect. Try and butter her up for the next big mod. I'll be living in the doghouse when the supercharger comes in.. ;)

HOLY HELL CAN SOMEBODY SAY WHIPPED?!?!?!!! :p:

1st mod is ALWAYS a good garage.
Mine has a woodstove-bathroom with shower--tv
A guy could live out there-----just don't ask how I know this.

I'll admit I'm whipped. I've got a good woman. Just will NEVER drive that darn long with her again!

I've only got a shed infested with bee's. Oh well, someday I'll have a garage.

I am very pleased with the combination of pulleys that I am running - the UD crank, UD water pump and the OD alternator.

Contrary to what others say I have had no problems with cooling whatsoever in Florida, Most naysayers have never actually tested what they speak about.

Since your goal is power, I would definitely do the water pump pulley as well as the crank.

I look forward to seeing your install and results.

Good luck ....

Okay - I'm thinking I should do them all. That away I can get one belt one time only. So, this will be my next mod. All the pulleys and the belt.

Who all has done business with underdog perormance? Good company?

Good. I'm ready to get this crap done!! I want the tune just to see what this puppy is going to do.

Also curious what the header results will be? Half of everyone that has had them says they didn't do anything. Others say it was the best thing they ever did. Curious....I think it's not going to be a HUGE gain but I bet it does something as well as set's me up for the future.

Okay guys, I said I would be honest with you so....

The removal of the pre-cat's really didn't do much now that I've had more time to analyze. However, the removal of the main cat's did something. (I did that first)

Now with the pre-cats. I said I didn't lose any low end torque however.....this is what I'm facing;

The truck FEELS like it pulls harder AND off the line launches feel okay (Like I didn't loose anything) However, when I time the thing (Yes its not accurate with a stop watch but it should be real close if I can consistently come up with the same numbers over and over?!!), I’m back up to around 7.8!!!!

So, I guess I need to add a high flow cat OR is there something else affecting my results that I'm not thinking bout?

Suggestions please but I don't feel like being flamed today so be nice.

I once wanted headers, but Doug ( Bama Chips ) convienced me not to. There is a thread on RPS forum with dyno data to support not getting them.

I have not seen any data to support removal of the cats.

Okay - I'm not saying anyone should do what I've done but.....
IF you take you're main cat's off and bust out the crap in it and you'll feel a gain. Bet you'll make more power as well on the dyno. You take the pre-cats out and you won't feel much. Probably won't see anything on the dyno either.

I'm hard headed about the headers. The tail will be told agian. Maybe the same results but we'll all find out cuss I'm still gonna dyno twice. Before and after the headers.

By the way, I've seen the post on the RPS forum about the headers as well. I'm still not sold that this is the case for everyone. I'll have to see multiple results to be convienced.

Something to ponder on. Just got off the phone with Gibson. (Yes, I know there going to try and sell me the headers but..) The guy told me that they don't produce anything if there will be NO gain. He gave me an example of the new F-150 with the 4.6. Told me they would not be selling headers for this vehicle BECAUSE there testing has shown no gain.

Now, I asked some questions to him like; Did you do test on multiple vehicles or just one? He didn't give me a direct answer on this...Okay.

He said that the sheet's he has shows a 5 HP gain. He also said that the Primary tube DIA is 1.5". I've been told to go with 1.625" so I guess that's the JBA size. Anyways, the Gibson's are still the way I'm going, think the Ranger dude did the JBA's. Anyways, James says there good, and I trust him.

Bottom line is there's still mixed opinions out there. It's not clear and I intend on finding out for myself. If no gain? oh well.
