Jon And Sheri's Vitamin D Wagon

News flash.......
Jons Internet is down until the morning everybody.

Hmm, internet seems to have fixed itself.

I couldn't find my hard copy of Chilton's manual, tried loading my Chiltons cd only to find it is too old to work with 64 bit OS, so I got on line to look uo fuel pressure and my internet was dead. Oh and I got sprayed with fuel too. I was not having a happy time yesterday. :(

Anyway--new pump in, new spring clippy inside the fuel line, and still 30 measly psi so I changed the FPR and filter. It is still 30 psi at idle. Seems like it should be higher?

Gas gauge works now so that's a plus. :D

I think the goal is about 32-35psi normally, and up to 40psi without vacuum on it. I'd call 30psi a little low, but the pressure gauge could be off that tad bit. Unless you have something saying it's lean, I'd call that okay.

with vacuum line taken off--dohp--I knew I forgot something. Thanks Don, I will re check.

Ummmm is'nt that chiltons in my mounty these days? :p:

oh yeah.
It's all Cyber's fault. Ok then. :D

I've got a Chiltons' and Haynes' that are just collecting dust. Just say the word :D

Well, good news to report.

My gas mileage monitoring has been done like this:

Drive 90 miles and re fill using the same pump. After the auto stop trips I give it 3 squeezes until shut off, then round it to the nearest dime.
normally it was taking between 8.9 and 9.1 gallons each time.

So, as stated a bit earlier I shotgunned this and replaced the intake gaskets, cleaned the injectors and ports, replaced the IAT sensor, ECT sensor, both Oxygen sensors with Ford units, and, replced the entire fuel pump assembly.

After 90 miles I just filled and it took 7.7 gallons!!!! WOOO I am so excited now.

Bad news to report though. The Smittybuilt grab handles aint all that whippie. My driver side let go as i was getting into the truck. Luckily there was an observer of my truck standing there as I was showing him how I have to get into the thing, he made a good catch and saved my day. I noticed Sheri's side is loosening at the strap seam also--Time to get out the sewing machine to re stitch these things. They haven't been installed all that long, I venture to say we have tugged on them about 150 times???

I only weigh 175 lbs, they should be built a little better. I guess you get what you pay for eh? Any recommendations? We use them to get in, so I guess I need something pretty good. They need to be "soft" due to the location on the a pillar roll bar tube.

same mileage as me really. 11-11.5mpg city and 17.8mpg highway with no overdrive lol

as for the handles, take the loop of a recovery strap and cut off an end and sew it around the roll bar? so you can grab the loop

Umm, this is a combined figure. I would kill to get 16 mpg highway. with overdrive.

The handles are a bit trickier than that.If you merely sew straps over the bars--the 2 areas where it goes around the bar will just slide into each other when pulled on.

See how these have a 3rd strap in the middle? Even then the outer 2 pull inwards when tugged. The problem with these is where the handle wraps the outer strap, it is a single stitch. If it had been doubled with an x stitchthrown in they would be much better.

This picture shows what happened, the left end of the strap should wrap around the left bar strap and sewn securely. I cannot believe they single stitched such a crucial element in these.

Wow!
A quick call to Smittybilt was all that was needed. I informed them of the issue with the grab handles, and am getting a set of the "extreme" handles sent free of charge!!!!

Definitely more than I expected.:thumbsup:

Well, my lovely bride just returned from the local flea market with a dual cross bar Thule roof rack with bike attachments. It has the axle -fork lock thing to hold down a bike, and, the keys are with it. The mounting tabs have rubber pads, and go into the door jamb.

Wow, she paid 13.50 for it. Hopefully I can use it for a roof rack hold down and lights.

Great find at a great price, I am sure you will find a way to use it, I have no doubt about it!

106 degree wheelin

It was hot but I decided WTH and drove down behind the brush dump to the river bottoms.

There are quite a few well established, yet tight trails , several not so established trails and several more " used to be" trails running through the tangled mess right on the river edge. The river makes a bend so the banks are pretty steep, however once down there you have a huge gravel bar to fish from, and even camp overnight without worry of bother.

Here we are going in

011.jpg

Up and around this. The left side is steeper. Right behind the tree is the bank, with a "used to be" trail which was about 10' high and just about straight down. Meant to go up but that tree is right there to surprise ya if you aren't on your toes.

012.jpg

view from back side of tree, where the used to be trail goes down.

continuing on

heres the easy way down to the river

018.jpg

019.jpg

I got out to take these pictures

gravel bar

022.jpg

021.jpg

Then I got back in to move and got right back out again because-yeah I didn't lock my hubs in yet.

023.jpg

kinda sandy here. Looking back up the path that got ya down.

024.jpg

more gravel bar

025.jpg

026.jpg

OK look how high the banks are, and straight up

027.jpg

028.jpg

Here is where the harder trail used to be. Once you get up there the tree is right in the midde so if you don't know exactly where you are it will result in sudden braking. You have to be going pretty good when you hit this because there is a ledge right above where I am about 4' straight up.

I went this far but being all by myself and all of 6 blocks from home I got skeert

030.jpg

uh oh, I didn't mean to find this
031.jpg

032.jpg

033.jpg

Anyway, time to get back because it is like 106 out there and my iced tea is now empty

Trail in need of some love

034.jpg

more in here
035.jpg

I scared 2 white tail deer on the way out

036.jpg

037.jpg

Water temp on left, trans temp on right. Don't push it. Let's go get an iced tea and chill

Uhh, looks like you are lucky you didn't get shot at gettin' close to someones "stuff", assuming that's what I think it is. Looks like fun! Next time take someone with you so you can cross the river. ;)

Most of the times I've seen that river i wouldn't cross it in anything less than a boat. It's usually moving at a pretty good speed.

Nice trails/scenery, Beautiful Truck, everytime I see I like it more and more!

Yeah, I don't cross water anymore either ....

A while back the electric fan on the transmission cooler died. So, Today I replaced it with a pusher to free up airspace between the radiator and cooler.

010.jpg

Then I started fitting a second cooler

011.jpg

Got it and a second fan in there

012.jpg

Still looks like a lot of room in front of the radiator.

013-1.jpg

We'll see how well this works tonight.

Anywhoo
Got the rack base put on. I can't find any name on it except for the axle lock and I think that is an axle lock brand

it does need some tube plugs but those will be easy enough to get

I can see how the front dealio will hold onto a bike, but this? I think it has pieces missing.
006-2.jpg

For under 14.00 though it is a good safari rack base.
