I agree, most people are going with this chip simply because they dont have another, cos the others cost too much and whatnot.

whats more, they are burning me one so I can continue to actually afford my daily drives and run on 87 octane.. the other companies wouldn't do that for me.

I was also compelled by the dyno runs.. however, I am a bit concerned as to why this 4.0L has more HP AND torque than my 5.0.. if the v8 doesn't have at least 1 or the other. over an engine with 2 less cylinders. its a worthless engine that weighs more and sucks gas.

I've been getting 14-15mpg latley.. and I drive pretty aggressive.

I dont know about the chip "firming up" transmission shifts.. this concerns me since mine already shifts harder than I'd like it to. I should probablly tell them to leave that alone.

Darkfox1....definately tell him about your tranny already shifting too firm.

Tbomb...Like Chucky said...the dyno numbers were pretty impressive, plus, if you did need it custom burnt, he is doing it at no additional charge. A few got it burnt for 87 octane, different MAF. So...for the $199 price tag, everyone thought it was a great deal. Plus, if you need to get it re-flashed down the road, it's only $40.

Please read the entirety of this post...

Reading all the replies and other threads about the chip kind of concerns me. For the record...

I am very happy with my chip and it was worth every penny, to me. I don't have any other performance mods other then the
KKM. I don't even have an exhaust. (coming soon) And the power gain to me is noticeable. The Shifting is awesome! and
with the performance I am getting and then getting a very solid MPG of around 17-18 daily driven Automatic, 4x4 Explorer is
great.

I have heard that I am getting this chip based on Black Magic's testimony and gains. I just don't want anyone to get upset with
me if you are not happy with your chip. I was a third party that was contacted to be the guinea pig for this chip, I was ready
to get a chip anyway. So if I could get something I wanted, if it was better than all the others, AND I could help out the other
members of this board. I WAS ON IT!

I fell good about endorsing this chip to everyone. Based on my results, they have been very good for me. Brian is a great guy
and will be very good to all of you and take great care of your needs. He can't really tell you where he gets his information for
the chip programming, but believe me it is a better program than any other chip company could provide. He told me who is
providing the info and I was like ok sure. Then while I was there he received a delivery of parts and other info from his
"buddy" and it was more than proof needed to back up his claim. I was like well Damn!

I just wanted to voice my concern for my reputation on this board. I have been through two Explorer's on this board
and a member since Feb. 2000. I have great respect for this Board, it's Moderators, and most of all it's contributing
Members!
With out all of you I would not have the Ride I own today. I hope the 40 group buyer's and anyone else who
gets their chip enjoys it as much as I enjoy mine.

Sincerely,
Matt

Well you wouldnt have to worry about people being upset because there is a 30 day money back guarentee so if someone isnt satisfied they can return it.

And as long as he isnt getting the chip program from Bill Gates i am happy. The last thing i would need on my explorer is a computer crash.:D

LOL....I second that.

lol, bluescreen

ya, theres no doubt in my mind that if you get the generic 93 octane code for it, it will show gains

Matt, keep in mind you have 33" tires and a lift.

The tires, even if you have re-geared to compensate, are still much heavier than stock sized ones. Big loss there.

The lift makes a big difference too. I guess from pushing a much larger hole in the air while going down the road than a 4" shorter stocker. I used to get 17mpg in my '95, then immediately dropped to 13 after the body lift.

You have a point there, but I always got 230 per tank, even stock.

I plan to regear to 4.56 so the chip isn't really a priority for me. Also, mpg isn't a priority.

I am hesitant to mess with the ECU and pay high octane prices. Although it changes the shift points it's harder on the tranny as well. We all know Ford isn't known for tough trannies in the X. I know it may seem like all I have to say is bad stuff about the chip. I am just throwing out stuff for everyone who might not have thought of these things. 40k down the road the chip may have adverse effects.

2001...you're not even buying a chip so what are you doing in this thread? Personally I don't care for your negative opinions. We're all happy to be getting this chip and are awaiting our own results. If you have some need to to criticize find another place to do it please.

i don't mind stating your opinions.
But firmer shifting isn't necessarily worse on your transmission. Many times frimer shifting extends the life of it....

"Although it changes the shift points it's harder on the tranny as well."

?

My tranny guy put the shift kit in mine when I had it rebuilt. He said that the firmer shifting would prolong the life of it. If you tell Apten to "let my tranny rev to 7000RPM before shifting" then sure I'm sure it will screw it up. Common sense here. And this chip is supposed to help with "hunting"...do you think that is good for a tranny?? I mean honestly, what have you really brought to this thread but negativity? What's the reasoning behind it? I understand being critical, but this is just getting old.

The chip changes the shift points, it does not make the shifts firmer.

I was originally going to buy the chip, but changed my mind. You came into an on going conversation about fuel mileage. Thanks for your comment though.

You are right, a firmer shift does prolong the the life of the transmission. If I read correctly in other posts the Apten chip changes the shift points, but does not make the shift firmer.

I never said the chip was bad, I do agree that the price for the hp gain is good.

Just because I am not actually going to buy the chip doesn't mean I can't post anything.

I just reread Matt's first post and he did say that the shifts are firmer. In that case I take back my original post about the chip being bad for the tranny. Besides, the gain hp probably won't make a difference in wear and tear anyway.

Good luck with the chip, I hope everyone gets what they are expecting.

Beautiful X, what info do you have to give when ordering a chip, not saying that i am going to order one, but was wondering what info I would have to get frist. Thanks
