I got hold of a performance air filter like the K&N cone but never had the adapter to fit it- so I fabricated a pair of wire clamps, much like the ones on the side of the stock airt box to hold it in place- Well happy with the result, its solid and sounds fantastic, I think it pulls slightly better also now!
Still working on the car, a little here and there, have to get and change a set of spark plugs on her and still have to refurb the alloys b4 meet!

BEAST of an intake sir!
If it gets wet , do they still work ok??

been in all weather conditions and no problems have occurd even 2 weeks back in bad rain i had ago in a local park, again despite muddy splashes no problems, iv not even cleaned it since. thats how it looks after a month after fitting.

looking good mate.. I like that.. I've done the filter thing too.. mine's a pipercross that I had to modify to fit..

That's mine

I can't tell how thick that material is, but it looks as if it would restrict air flow? I have a cone air filter in mine, and I've never had a problem with water or anything else. Especially if you have the box still there to help shield it. I would imagine some sort of metal shield on top would help it instead of a 'sock' or 'sleave' whatever it is. Just my 2 cents.

Mine looks a lot like the K&N one above, I have not made a heat shield for it, but mine does need a bracket as it rattles on the body a little, a job for saturdays great weather as well as start the alloy wheel restore project! It never ends does it!

I have heard that you can get a spray on oil for these filters to trap more dust- anyone use it or like me do you all go dry?

Done the spark plugs, forgot how hard they are on access!
Anyways, I used NGK double plats - smooth idle now, the old ones I tool out were the OE motorcraft ones............Thats 83k on them- they were clean and showed the engine is fine, but as expected the gaps had widened and the centre electrode was all but gone on all of them.

i wouldnt wanna do that as it can be drawn into the maf sensor and ruin it, thats why iv bought a metal cone to save any hassle with pre oiled cones.
