I dare you to switch one of your super-blue bulbs out with a JD HIR if they fit.

You'll never want those blue bulbs again. The JD bulbs are so much brighter.

i dont care how bright they are. i like the way my blue ones LOOK. also i have a 2nd gen.

Yeah some people just like the looks of the blue light. But i know i when i had those crappy silverstars and i had to drive on the highway at night i couldnt see anything. I will never go with those again. I might just get some good philips bulbs as soon as one of my burn out.

These HIR bulbs are insanely bright, so much more pleasing that el-crapo silverstars....

Your '96 uses 9006 bulbs even though according to the list 2nd gens supposedly use 9007 bulbs?

I don't drive an explorer anymore ;)

No sir, just wanted to tip off explorer owners who can use 9006/5 bulbs, or care enough to retrofit them. Apparently JD has wisened up though, and the prices are on the rise from JD.

Still, regardless of the price my next set will be JD HIR bulbs because I cannot go back... it is the only bulb I've actually noticed a difference from.

I doubt it, for reference here is a 9006 bulb

and here is a 9007

Can you get them in the other size? (9007)

Nate:

The output seems pretty incredible. I realize it's not scientific, but the alley show of your high beams is about equal to my highs + PIAA 510s. It's too bad that they don't have a 9007 variant.

9006/5 are single element bulbs. 9006=low beam, 9005=high beam.
9007 is a dual element bulb.

Indeed. I wish the market demand was there for these bulbs to be made in other sizes. They are what silverstars and ricer bulbs pretend to be. I know the technology is there to produce them in pretty much any bulb application, I just don't think the manufacturers realize the consumer demand would be huge if they made them.

I ordered another few sets to have for the next couple of years in case production of the HIRs trickles off. I don't think I will be able to switch back now :banghead:

Just bumping this thread back to the top.

I found another site that sells both the 9011 (high beam 9005 equiv.) and the 9012 (low beam 9006 equiv.) at www.finemotoring.com

The John Deere bulbs are the low beams, and I first want to add them to the high beams, as that's when most light is needed anyhow. If they work well, which I'm pretty sure they will, I'll get the JD bulbs for the low beams.

FYI IIRC the highbeam improvement was not as dramatic as the lowbeam improvement. The highbeams had less headroom from the start and could only get so bright; but the lowbeams showed more dramatic gains ;)

Has anybody had any problems with people thinking you are high beaming them?

take some pictures of the mod so we know what to do and arent scared to do it!

I just typed the part number AH211917 into google, all that came up was various car forums!:D

so the bottom line is the HIR Deer bulbs are not abailable for our trucks (95-2001) because we require a 9007 bulb and you can only get these in 9006.

correct?
