I'm going to be doing a TT/shacles in the next week, and just did a search here for pictures of exactly which bolt you tighten to lift the front end. Seems like some people said towards the middle of the truck, not the front. I found 1 post that said it had pictures of it, but they had been removed. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

i dont have a pic, but maybe i can explain it. I just did my shakle and T/T today. If you follow the radius arm back from the front suspension, back to just about the middle of the door. There should be a crossmember there where the end of the arms are. The bracket that holds them has four mounting bolts, and then a bolt in the center, stickin through a hole. That is the one you need to turn. if you climb under there you cant miss it. I hope this helps ya.:)

Okay, it's like this. Look at the lower arms in the front, they each have one bar that goes back, follow the bar(it's the torsion bar). Then the torsion bar goes into an adjuster arm, theres the bolt that adjusts the torsion bars, it pushes up on the adjuster arm. It's pretty much the only bolt you can tighten and loosen that's on the bottom of the torsion bar bracket(it goes through the bracket).

Adjust the torsion bars (height) as necessary by tightening or loosening the torsion bar adjusting bolt.

Tighten the torsion bar adjusting bolt to increase the torque or raise the height.

Loosen the torsion bar adjusting bolt to decrease the torque or lower the height.

Here is FORD's drawing of the Torsion Bar Adjusting bolt.

THANK YOU!

That really helped!

I have been looking up the TT for a while and dont really get it. What I think I know is that all you have to do is tighten a blot and it lifts your front end only. If this is true what is the best (but more importantly cheapest) way to lift your rear and how do you know how affective the TT was. Thanks.

i have a 2001 sport and want to lower it. i heard of a guy with a sport who lowered the front by removing the torsion bolts and using blocks for the rear.
1) is this safe?
2) what are lowering blocks?
3) in inches, how much of a drop can you get out of doing this?

Mike, a cheap way of lifting the rear is by installing some longer shackles.

2k1exsport, about the lowering blocks question, they're just blocks that go between the spring perches on the axle and leaf springs. Since explorer's use SUA(Spring Under Axle), putting in blocks lowers it.

How do you know how high you've gone with the torsion twist? Do you have to do it by eye or is there some exact way of measuring? Is there a way to loosen it down to the exact place it was before, in case you want to upgrade to a bigger lift like a skyjacker 6" suspension lift? And does the torsion twist raise the whole frame like a suspension lift or is it something different?

Just use a tape measure and measure the original height, and the height afterwards.

Just so you know biggs, you have TTB so you can't do the torsion twist, you'll have to use coil spacers or longer coils. The torsion twist does lift up the frame but doesn't give you any additional travel.

Here is the only pic I have it's ExplorGM's passenger side T-bolt.
I guess he keeps the socket on there so he knows where it is? :D

(What was the story behind the socket again Rick G.?)

I feel like an idiot. No wonder I was underneath my truck for 20 minutes looking for that stupid bolt. I guess I should of took the time to read that the TT was only for the newer models. So would the coil spacers be just as effective as the TT with longer shackles in the rear, and does it still 4wheel about the same? I would figure it would because they're both a really cheap way to lift your truck.

How hard is it to turn the bolts... I could only move both of mine about quarter of a turn...? I quit because I didn't want to strip it....

wow...old thread
anyways, did you have the truck lifted by the frame? if so try some penetrating oil (pblaster, wd40, something like that) and let it sit for a few hours or days.

Yeah, I cant find any pics either, Im looking under my Moms Nissan xTerra, does anyone know if they are different, I cant find anything taht looks remotely like that???

EDIT: I think I found it with a little searching on Nissan forums, I forgot that its an imported car, therefore may be a little different :D, it actually has 2 bolts instead of 1 :D

Thnx

Thnx a ton guys. i recently picked up a 96 eddie bauer, and the front end was sagging badly, as well as extremely bad cambor! adjusted the bolts all the way in, set it down, was way too high, so turned them about 20 quarter turns each back out, boom, perfect! Very good info here! take care and thnx again!

torsion bar

Can i do the torson bar on my 96 explorer? and then just put 2 inch blocks underneath the leafs in the back and longer u bolts to even it out?
