Matt's '92/'99 4X4 V8/4R70W swap!

It basically is, the high standards of Mercon V are the reason that it costs so much, any brand at a store. The very best though is Amsoil, and it costs more, just as Royal Purple etc does. Amsoil just came out with their version of the new Dexron VI stuff I gather, it also meets the new Ford specs of their latest fluid.

I was thinking Mercon V WAS synthetic?

Amsoil is what I'm using. Around here, there's not much choice when it comes to Mercon V. It's a great transmission but it also takes $$$ to fill 'er up.

Yeah I bought mercon it's just easier to type ATF.

Yes make it Mercon V, Mercon is now obsolete, and the Mercon V is an improvement for torque converter shudder etc. I use the term ATF only when I have previously referred to the standard spec before. There is still such a thing as "ATF" and it's a two decade old standard, cheap stuff. The companies use the ATF term to abbreviate automatic transmission fluid. Regards,

Ok the 205 is bolted in and fits like a glove.

Well, one of those gloves that's extremely hard to put on or remove but fits fine once it is on, anyway.

Almost dropped the thing on my head like three times.

Now I'm gonna start reassembling the engine and then start on my wiring.

Tomorrow i hope to have the driveshafts at harmon 4x4 for length adjustment. But I'm having trouble unbolting the rear from the rear axle. Stupid 12mm 12 point bolts. I broke the only socket I had so I'm gonna have to pick up another one.

Looks like I'm gonna get held up a few days by rain. But there's not much left to do.

Accessories, wiring, temporary exhaust connection. Then vrooom.

12mm box wrench and a pipe (cheater pipe) best possible tool for this!! I like to jack up the rear axle, truck in N, and use a long pry bar to stop the d shaft from turning, so I can easily unbolt all 8 at once (only getting on my back 1 time) or all 16 if I am doing front and rear d shafts.....

if you use a 12 point socket make sure its 1/2" drive, with lock tight those suckers can be tricky to break loose!!

I am anxious for you, we know your getting close! remember we always say, plan a timeline and budget, then tripple them

Took the impact gun to get the driveshaft loose.

They should have the rear done tomorrow with new joints.

Here's some crappy phone pictures.

Getting there!!!

And I don't want to here any "redneck engineering" comments about that block of wood either! :)

It Will get replaced when I find something else.

I like it, and how does the nice trans mount work? Is that good and firm, unlike the stock rubber piece?

It's nice yes. Though the stock piece was fine on mine.

However. The new mount(it's from a foxbody), the bolts on the crossmember side are narrower than the stock crossmember is drilled for. So you'll have to drill new holes if you can. (I couldn't).

Also the stock v6 mount is nice, but it won't work with the v8 trans adapter. It's too wide front to back.

I noticed a small aftermarket cross member made for that urethane mount, for the late Mustangs. I may see if such an intermediate part can be made for our trucks. You got it to work for your truck, and the 95-01 shouldn't be much different.

I found it easier to make that little adapter plate in the pics than to relocate the crossmember so it all worked out.

There was a mis-communication between some guys at the driveshaft place yesterday and they made it an inch too long.

Just got it back after they made it right. So we should be, barring unforseen circumstances, running by tomorrow night.
