mercon or mercon v?

Is the Walmart brand Mercon V any good? What do most of you prefer for Mercon V ATF? I see Walmart brand is $3.77 a qt. I didn't see the mercon V in the 1gal containers in the stores I was in or I may have gotten a few of them..What do you all think? George

You have a good point. There are several aftermarket versions of Dextron III/ Mercon available from Castrol, Valvoline, Pennzoil, et al. Walmart offers their house brand SuperTech as multi vehicle ATF (Mercon) or as Mercon V.

Where are the Ford lawyers? ;)

I'm not sure about the Walmart brand ATF. They do say that it meets Mercon V specs plus a ton of others including Toyota WS spec. I'm not sure that I trust that part because WS is a fairly unique ATF.

For my Explorer, I use AMSOil Synthetic ATF which is about $9 / qt. I think this is one of the best ATF you can buy.

For the motorhome, I ended up using Napa Premium ATF which is recommended for vehicles using Mercon (not Mercon V). I plan to change the motorhome ATF every 20k or so, made easier by the drain plug in the pan and the TC.
