That is true Randall, but hard to swallow the added gas when my tow rig gets 9mpgs with the trailer on fairly flat ground. I dont even want to think about how low it could go in CO
Dunno what your tow rig is, but our trips would be similar... i calculated every tank last trip to moab and oddly enough i got about the same mileage in the mountains as i got on flat lands.

One more try...

Open question to the group...

Shall I reserve a spot for us for a Saturday night dinner at 7pm? Or do you want to try something else this year??
In! For whatever. :D

Im down for the dinner Saturday. I am bringing my 1 yr old.
Im going to reserve my hotel room in a couple weeks. Ill arrive probably Thursday by 10am and leave Monday at 5pm.

All i have right now is a single place car trailer. Thanks for the idea though. I wonder if any place rents trailers that big.

You are about 550 miles from me,I will check with some people I know on a trailer as they run trucking outfits. I drive big rig for a living. At the least we can team up for the drive down,I have tools and we should be able to keep things moving even if we just drive the ex's down there.

I am out. Going to Venezuela instead. EJS will have to be enough for me this year.

This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. Do I need an ohv permit there?

So, if registered in any state, good to go?

Yes to dinner on Saturday.

3 months and counting!!!

Ok sounds good. I'll make reservations with the Branding Iron. They've always treated us well.

Just checked in for the first time in a few days and vote for a Saturday dinner. Branding Iron has always been a good place.

I'm really excited! I just hope they have some bunny trails for those of us with stock vehicles!

This used to be the case, but now I am not sure. My dirtbikes are plated/ registered in colorado (where as long as it is plated, you don't need an ohv sticker offroad) but they starting handing out tickets in utah license plate or not, even if it was ohv stickered in another state if you were on the trails with out a Utah OHV sticker. Also, they arent as lenient as they used to be about non street legal rigs. They will give out tickets. Even for the lame-o utah mudflap and fender flare laws (which is ridiculous and illegal if it is legal in your own state). So now I don't know what to say. Usually there wont be anyone around to notice/ care except on the weeks surrounding Easter. Easy to buy a sticker though. The ranger office in Moab should be able to clear up any questions.

Oh.....so what about vehicles registered in utah? Do I need to get an ohv sticker as well?

Good info  Looks like my misunderstanding was isolated to out of state Dualsport Motorcycles, which I am still a bit confused about! The hubub I heard last year must have been revoked CO reciprocity.

Otherwise, it looks like you must get an ohv permit if you are not street legal unless you have an OHV permit from any state but: AL AK CO CT FL GA HI IL IA KS KY ME MD MA MI MS NE NV NH NJ NC RI SC SD TN TX VA WV WI WY

OHV permit does not mean it is OK to drive on the streets, but unless you run into someone who is trying to give you a rough time you will likely be fine.

It looks like if you are street legal, there are 2 places that charge an additional fee.

This is from the Safari web site;
Q When do I need a permit? Fees?
A Trail access in the Moab area covers all types of property - from private lands to BLM (Bureau of Land Management), to Forest Service managed lands, to the National and State Park systems. Each managing body may have different rules or possible fees to recreate on the road/trails. Here are some of the examples, not limited to:
Sand Flats Recreation Area (the entrance to Hell's Revenge) $5 day use per vehicle
Pritchett Canyon: $2 private gate fee

NOTE: During EJS or LDCO part of your registration fee covers the trail use permits that are acquired for hosting an event.

Please check with the appropriate land management office for the latest updates as to rules regulations and permits. At the time of writing, any organized 'event' that is promoted as such and has more than 25 vehicles on one trail constitutes the need for a group permit. Permits must be applied for many months in advance for organized groups. Permits are also required for commercial photography film and video on public lands. Contact information for the BLM office is: Moab Field Office 82 East Dogwood Moab, Utah 84532 Phone: (435) 259-2100 Fax: (435) 259-2106
