MOAB EXPLORER EXTRAVAGANZA 2001

Yep, you were one of the three immediate responses. I'll get the itinerary thread updated soon.

Remember guys, the hotels are filling up in town. If you aren't camping out start looking for a room pronto.

Hey Brian1,
Is your dad going to come with you?
He seemed to have fun at CCR2000 so I was just wondering.

Hey Drakman. For stock tire size I'd just get you a dana traclock for the front 189.00 from 4-wheelpartswholesalers.
At ccr2000 I had 3.73's stock tire size (30's) and the track lock made 100% difference. The cost to regear is high and I'd just wait until you go to 4.56's. Just my .02

Perry, yes my dad will be going with me to Moab.
Gerald, I forgot to tell you my dad is coming with me. His name is Jim so you can update the list again if needed.

It's good to see so many people from CCR2000 are going to make it. Look foward to seeing all of you again.

Remember me?

Good God, where have I been??? I mean, you don't check the board for a month and look what happens! :D If there's still room, I'd LOVE to join the group for the Moab run in May, Gerald! I'm guessing my sister (ExplorAuthorityGal) would like to do the same. And everyone probably figured we'd been scared off by the CCR2000 run - NO WAY!

So you have at least one other confirmed Sport - mmpc (Chris), and very likely 2 but I'll have to speak to Jen first. Heck, I should be driving a spankin' new leased 2001/2002 Sport by then - what a way to break it in! Don't have any confirmed reservations yet, but I'll let you know. Also, I'd enjoy caravaning with the Colorado contingent. I'll be back on the board MUCH more frequently now that my business has calmed down a bit.
It's great to hear Gerald is organizing again - he did such a GREAT job with CCR2000! I'm excited, can you tell? :bounce:

Chris, I wondered what happened to you two.
Go to the main page RIGHT NOW and register online for the Moab 2001 trip. There are only two slots left, HINT.
We may go a little over since my brother may drop out and Peter Weber will usually be riding with someone else so he can photo and film, but that's all the room we have left. I am holding one slot for a couple of days for one person who needed to clear the trip with his parents first.

Great to hear from you!

All signed up...

Gerald, great to talk to you again, too! I've been so busy with business & travel lately (a good thing when you're self-employed) that I hadn't been able to check the board much at all. As for my sister, she's been in the process of changing jobs, so that probably explains her absent mindedness - among other things!!! ;)

Anyway, I signed both of us up and she just confirmed with me via e-mail that she's planning on making it. Now I'll have to check the lodgings threads and make some decisions... It will be great to see everyone from CCR2000 again, especially Matt, Perry and the rest of the "Colorado Contingent."

By the way, Jen wanted me to ask you how Scamp is doing?

I finally had to put him down November 14th. He's buried under the pecan tree in my backyard that he used to rest under. The vet said he only had a few months left anyway when I took him to Colorado, that stress just accelerated it a little I guess.

The Leasees

Hey Chris! I was wondering about you guys too. I guess CCR wasn't enough to scare those lease trucks away. Lol!

I'm sure we can find some trails in moab that'll violate your lease agreements!!! :p

:bounce:See ya'll there!:bounce:

Great pics!

Anybody know if those Sports are stock? If they are leased then I guess they are, huh?

Yep, bone stock. It was really fun watching them learn what they could do. I believe it safe to say they had no idea how much they could accomplish before they joined all of us bad influences :smoke:

Stuff like that -- watching new wheelers as it begins to dawn on them how much they can do and what fun it is -- really makes this whole deal fun for me. :bounce:

PS/ Chris, Jen, hope your lease company doesn't check your undercarriages when you turn them back in :D

Your right Gerald. When I first bought my Sport I wasn't really sure what it could do until I took it out for a spell. To be honest I was surprised at it's abilities. Granted, a driver's skill has a lot do do with it, but these Explorers are capable of a lot more than people think.

Excessive wear & tear???

Darkman, good to hear from you - love the shots of Jen and me! But, that rock just doesn't look as impressive as it did in person, what did you do to the picture?! ;) And yes, to the person that asked, those babies were (and still are) nothing but stock, unless you consider a K&N filter a modification...

We came through CCR2000 just fine, save for a couple scratches and, so far, have yet to be scared off... If anything, CCR2000 whetted our appetite for more wheeling, especially after meeting all of the incredibly kind people from this board who made the trip and helped us out. Unfortunately, since life (and work) marches on, Jen and I haven't been able to do much wheeling since then. That's what makes this Moab trip so attractive, can't wait! :bounce:

As mentioned in an earlier post, I should be driving a brand new 2001/2002 Sport by the time M2K1 rolls around; my '98 lease is up on May 1st. As for the dealer's rep who looks over my Sport when the lease terminates, I'll be sure to distract them as much as possible! Why no, that's not a scratch, it's a paint blemish... :D Actually, I've managed to keep my Explorer relatively scrape-free and hope to do the same with the new one since it doubles as my mobile-office.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone from CCR2000 again, and putting faces with all of the new names I see in previous posts!

To Gerald, I'm genuinely sorry to hear about Scamp. Unfortunately our Rotties (which didn't make the CCR2000) are getting up there in age as well. I fear it won't be long before we're faced with the same difficult decision you were forced to make...

ME, ME, ME!!!!!!!

Where did I go to miss out on this!?!?!?!?!?!

Sign me up if there's still room left. I'm all for it, just didn't think it would go so fast. Any rooms? cabins? someone please enlighten me since I'm too lazy today to go hundreds of posts.

Thanks,

Andre, go to the main page to the section about the Moab 2001 Trip and click on the "Sign Up" link to sign up online. There is also a link called "Information". That links to the "Moab 2001 Itinerary" thread on this forum. That should provide most of the information you need.

That closes the registration. Congratulations to all! I will leave online registration open for a couple of more people to sign up as "alternate standby" in case any cancellations occur. If you are a confirmed participant and something comes up that prevents you from attending, please be sure to contact me so that the alternate can begin plans to attend.

Thanks; I did sign-up and I'm gonna start planning. I just need a brake now so after the holidays I can start preparing my rig.

Thanks once again.

Later,

I know that off-road.com has always been one to yell and screem about just about anything from the BLM, but I thought I'd quickly through up this link.

I wish I could make it,but I wouldn't know this one till about a month before hand and due to the slots, I'm out. Have fun.

gerald, i just slightly changed my plans. Kampy and I will both be showing up Thursday night, rather that friday night. I really really really want to run golden crack and double whammy!!!!!!!!! :D

i also noticed on the schedual that lower helldorado is on there, but not upper. Is upper way more extreme?

Here is the entrance to Upper Helldorado. Rick and I posted it several pages before on this thread. You are supposed to keep your right tire on the black marks to have a chance of getting in. Remember, this is just the entrance.

From what research I have been able to gather, there are at least three areas on Upper Helldorado that REQUIRE a winch; the obstacles are impossible no matter what vehicle you have. Also, there evidently isn't just a chance of body damage; it is guaranteed.

I could understand taking a SawZall'd rockcrawler through there, but I didn't think anyone with an Explorer would be that anxious to destroy it just for bragging rights to be able say they ran a certain trail.
