Motor swap? 1st generation 5.0 swap to 2wd gen swap?

Ok, a buddy of mine has a 1st Geneation explorer that originally had a 4.0L in it, which he swaped to a Carb 302 which bolted up to the stock tranny which is a 4 speed auto. I want to buy the truck off him and put the motor and tranny into my second generation sport. Is this humanly and physically possible. I read that to swap to the 5.0 you have to swap trannys but this is a different tranny and motor combo. What do you guys think?

It would take an ass load of work still. You'd probably be better off starting from scratch.

I'm thinking he didn't put an A4LD behind a 5.0. 1) Why would you. 2) I doubt anyone makes an adapter.

You still need motor mounts, crossmembers, and wiring would be completely different going to ODB-I to ODB-II.

putting a carbed 5.0L and dinosaur AOD into a Gen II Explorer is like shooting yourself in the foot, they already made a GT-40 5.0L Gen II with a wide ratio computer controlled stout AOD-E called the 4r70w.
It would seriously be less work, less $$$, get you more HP & torque (likely) and a better transmission for this truck by just doing the conversion using a Gen II explorer as your donor.
