I have a 93 explorer that is auto. That the heads cracked on so I bought a motor out of a 95 explorer that was 5 speed. Well after takeing the heads off my 93 we seen the cylinders had alot of rust in em. So figured just throw the 95 motor in. Well come to find out the 95 5 speed motor has a 8 bolt crank an my 93 auto has a 6 bolt.. Also my motor mounts from my 93 wont bolt on my 95. I thought a 95 would bolt right up in my 93 from all the stuff I read. So what am Missing? Or need? If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated!! Have it at a friends neighbors place an need to figure out what I need to do now. Thanks in advance...

I can't answer your question about the motor mount but if your gonna swap in the engine and trannie, you will need all the PCM and the engine, transmission and emission sensors and electrical harness too.

Wow. From everything I read said a 95 will work fine but need y lower/upper intake off my 93 an couple other lil things. Got 4 cars an within a month all has crapped on me.. This 93 here has needed a motor swap for about 6 months now so just gettin around to it. But my other car mustang water pump wnet out on it then have a 79 bronco an spun a bearing in that lol just having tons of luck... but thanks for your input fixxer

Well come to find out the motor came out a 97 explorer. Ran into a few problems. One was on the 97 it had a 8 bolt crank an 93 has 6 bolt. So had to get a 8 bolt flexplate from a 97 motor. Second one im still tryin to figure out is the motor mount plates. 97 had a reverese bolt patter on the driver side bracket. So got a driver side bracket off a 95 explorer. Went to match the brackets up with my 93 motor mounts an they are different. So was wondering if the 95 motor mounts will bolt up to my 93 frame. Went to a few different auto stores an none had em in stock to match up to my 93 motor mounts. Also was told I could get motor mount brackets off a 97 4.0 ranger an be able to use my 93 motor mounts. Well once I get this figured out all will be good.

The Motor mounts from your 1993 Block will bolt up to your 1997 Block.

The block didn't change those years. Only the heads/pistons/crank.

Not to sure about that. We have tried an the holes dont line up at all. if they would work that would of been great. The holes of the bracket to the motor didnt line up that is.

k. So got the motor all in today she fired up smoke a lil an stopped. But now if you stomp on the gas it acts up. Like it is missing or something. But if ya give it gas instead of holding it to the floor it runs fine. What could be the problem whit punching it to the floor? It seems to shift just fine, idles good just when ya hold it to the floor is when it acts up. The check engine light came on an the brake/parking brake an abs light is on also. Thanks for any an all help in advance

The CEL is a good thing.. Pull the code so we know what its pissed off about.. If the computer gets pissed it won't run right..

ABS light won't affect the motor like that.. Thats a different issue I would worry about after the motor.

Ok, I pulled the codes an they was 172,176 and 211 . The first two are about the o2 sensors an the last was some power ingnition faulty or something or other. Not sure what would cause that code to come up

Well come to find out the ckp sensor was not on all the way. The piece that locks it together broke so was kinda hanging there not all the way on. Toke a few zip ties an put it on all the way. Now she runs great.. No stumbling when wot now.. Also been looking on here an the net for few hours, Im trying to find what speaker wires from the factory amp are. I cant seem to find anything sayin which wires go to which speaker so I can hook it up to an aftermarket cd player. Previous owner cut the black plug off. So if anyone could help it would be much of help Thanks

Do you mean the small square plug that goes to the single shielded cable, or the standard rectangular plug that looks like the power one?

Are you trying to bypass the factory amp or connect the new stereo to it (if you have the factory amp)

LOL ENGINE SWAP GONE STEREO time for a new thread

Yea. Sorry didnt want to throw another thread out there just for that. But yea so far the engine is running great. Just have the brake light an abs light on now so have to get to searching around for that now. thanks for the help.

Oh an the wire is the grey round one with the black plug an has all the small wires from the amp. Im hooking up an aftermarket cd player an using the amp. I had it hooked up once but toke the cd player out to put in my 79 bronco

Hooking speaker level signals from head unit into line level amp input = bad

Bypass the whole crappy ford amp, it sounds much better then. It's in the passenger side pannel, by the rear seat. Lotsa fun to get to it. If you have a rubbery physique you might be able to do it through the speaker hole.

After the swap I have noticed the temp gauge seems to go to the m in normal an back down to the o in normal. It seems to get pretty warm/hot under the hood but not overheating. I did keep the clutch fan from the 97 on it. Would that be ok? An thermostat is fairly new. Thinking its that or air in the system. Cause I never bleed it just figured it would do it once driving for a few days. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
